What's it like shooting outside? Ive only shoot at the indoor ranges here. What are the important differences to be aware of?

well gee...seriously?  the obvious.. or maybe not so obvious things like.. sun glare..  that fancy red sight doesn't look so red or... it disapears when you aim a something in some brown weeds say....

wind... it can be stiff here.   Just as you pull the trigger it gusts or... stops..  brass flying around without walls.  overcast... rain...

All cool stuff.  Indoor ranges are not for me much.

If we can get our schedules together come on out.

Sounds fun.  :)  I might have some days off early thanksgiving week, or evan have that whole week off.  How does that sound?

wind makes a big dif on your shots at long ranges..outdoor shooting ranges are great...they make you see how far 500 yards really is..some people brag about hitting deer with iron sites at 700 or 800 yards on the run..and i just about laugh...cause at my range there is a 500 yard 55 gallon bucket target..you can hardly see it from that far..lol...with my 30.40 krag i was able to hit it with my iron sites holding it about a inch above the target..i was thinkin to my self,,i couldnt imagine taking a 800 yard shot with iron sites..lol...pure luck past 500 i would say to hit anything the size of a 55 gallon drum.. a 55 gallon drum at 500 yards looks about the size of a pea with your eyes..its fun to see if you can even hit it....but anything farther than 500 you really need a scope...but as for me,,i dont need to shoot that far..500 yards is just fine..lol

best thing about outdoor ranges..there fun for high power rifles that you cant shoot at indoor ranges..plus they got the cool cowboy shoot outs and stuff like that:)..the range i go to..they got the old west town set up..looks right out of the old west...i wouldnt mind tring that somtime

Fired a WW2 M1 the other day.
I'd like to have one ;)
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

yep.. they have those cowboy shoots at the range I belong to also..  My fee is $40 a year and it costs me a buck any time I use the range.

angus... I just just finished at the loading bench and reloaded about 300 rounds for my M1 Garand.   fun gun to shoot.

Is it at their range or the store?

What are you loading for that Garand?  I have about run out of the 1968 Lake City match stuff I have been shooting, and I need to start reloading for that one.  Ball powder or IMR?  Type and charge?  Bullet info?  Results? (no, forget the results part, you can only shoot at 100 yards, not 300)

IMR 4895... 147, 150 and 165 grain boat tails.

I only shoot at 100 at the range... out in the open plinking I shoot up to about 500 yards... as expected, the 165's seem to do about the best.

ought six stuff is drying up and commercial ought six has the wrong types of powder in it...   I can load 1000 rounds for about $200  maybe a little less depending on bulk of components... I am just starting reloading for the garand tho so haven't really tried to do much better than that.

Outdoor range is always preferable to me.  Sound isnt contained as much, air tends to remain clearer, and there is always the hope some small animal or bird will happen into the area between the weapon and the target.   :)

Nope, I'm gonna wait till next week. I know I could ask to fire it during the 10 day period but I'll wait. Plus I got more mags coming in to make it more fun.
