Ohio is a slug gun only state for deer. Its to populated and to flat in the NE and NW part of the state. Down in southern Ohio its all hills. That make any sense?
The longest shot to date on any whitetail I have taken is about 80 to 85 yards. Broke the bucks neck with one shot.
What county are you hunting in down yonder way? I took a nice doe yesterday less than 5 minutes from my house (Franklin County) after spending about 10 minutes in my stand.
When gun season comes around we go out to the club in Jefferson Co. (Steubenville area) and I spend the week there. 3 Statewide tags and 4 more urban tags to go

mmm...venison tenderloin...mmm...jerky...mm
m...steaks...mmm...more tenderloin.
One area we hunt is an old strip mine (miles of open ground) and a .50 caliber sabot does wonders at 200 yds.
