Please for god's sake, freakin cook the kid some real food.  That's all he's really after.  I can remember bein' 17 fresh outta the nest.  At that pint... or a few it's all bout' comin home to some comfort food (GOOD OLE HOME COOKIN')!

I know I bugged the Ole' Man for his pork chops soooooo many times comin home form school that eventually he started sending me home with a pund of the herb rub any time I came within 5 miles of Columbus! =)

Yep. Its nice to have someone else cook for you again every now and then. Or fix you some breakfast. Even though your completly capable (or less so) doing that yourself.

Comfort food... yeah.

For the record: I *do* cook, i actually *love* cooking.

Oh I do cook for him regularly.
What I am tryng do is getting him to cook something for himself other then Ramon noodles.

What I am trying to teach him and I emphasise with both my kids is self sufficiance. I dont want either of them to have to rely on anyone to do anything for them as at some point in their lives they are only going to have themselves to rely on because there isnt going to be anyone there to do everything for them.

At 17 he should be and is very capable of cooking for himself. But he doesnt because he knows mom or dad will do it for him.
Its a habit of his I am trying to break.
Thing is we havent gone food shopping yet and all the "easy" food he has already consumed.
Now if he wants something to eat he actually has to cook and not just boil water or throw it in a microwave for 2 minutes.
Rather then do that he would rather ask myself of his mom to cook something for him.
Often we will. but he needs to be able to and be willing to do for himself and I am not doing him any favors if I always do things for him instead of making him do for himself.

GREAT kid, No real complaints and I haveta admit I got REAL lucky when  we had him.
I just want him to be able to do for himself.

He really isnt into alcohol much at all.

Sometimes a glass of wine, or a shot or two of Shnapps. Or a shot of 99 Banannas (basically moonshine with a hint of bananna flavor)

But even then he doesnt drink alot.

I've never made alcohol a forbidden fruit here Its always been available for hiim.

He just doesnt have much interest in it other then occasionally and then only in limited amounts

IMO it's still not enough. You need to give him a knife and bow and let him know that not only does he have to cook for himself now but he has to hunt, kill and clean it now too.

Cause Peanut butter grosses him out.
He doesnt like Bleu Cheese dressing either.
And while he likes the other ingrediants.
Just not all at once.

The idea was to give it to him and when he complained about it tell him like my mother used to tell me.
"you dont like what I made for dinner then you can either go hungry or make something for yourself"

It worked. Unfortunately, just as he was about to make himself some regular burgers my wife strolls in and tells him there was a Sub sandwich waiting for him in the fridge.

LOL
Best laid plans as the saying goes.
I got my point across though

As for the burger. He was just about to feed it to the dogs untill I reminded him what was in that burger and that the dogs liked to sleep in his room at night.
Looking back on it now I perhaps shouldnt have said anything.
Then again I might end up getting arrested for having a WMD (poison gas)
LOL
