tomato Heinz???

I just watched "Battle of Britain." I know its an old movie, There is a scene where a German bomber pilot says "Tomato Heinz to all!, Tomato Heinz to all!" It was right before the spits engaged them. Is this something they actually said or just something added to the movie?

The British used to do taunting flights over France early in the war. They would all hop in their hurricanes, cross the channel, and after sliding the canopy back would yell at the German ground forces,  "Fish and Chips, Fish and Chips!"

Then they would all fly back to England, head to the Kings Crown pub, quaff pints of bitters, and laugh.:rofl

Lol.

Speaking of Tomato H(eins),

Always thought it was vaguely ironic that the Germans used Indianna as a call sign as well or painted Mickey Mouse on planes. Apparently American culture was infilitrating pristine European culture even back then.

I imagine "Indianna" got scratched from the call sign list after December of '41 however.

wasn't it "Achtung Indiana"? meaning they had sighted Americans, i think that if they used it as a callsign it may get a bit messy ;)

i might be wrong though...

It's Achtung Indianer - which IIRC translates to roughly "attention, Indians!"

Jerries saw one too many westerns before the war.  :)
