Yak9U and the Yak9UT
« on: October 27, 2005, 02:17:57 PM »
We have a Yak 9T which is the T version of the Yak9D (cockpit moved back for the longer bigger cannon)

The Yak9UT shared the same fuselage as the Yak9U and according to Gordon and Khazanov its performance was the same as the Yak9U

Armament was initially to be

1 x NS37 cannon (Hub)
2 x B20 cannon (Syn)

However plant 166 went into immediate production in late March 45 converting /producing 282 to this type over the coming months with

1 x NS-23 cannon (Hub)
2 x B20 cannon  (Syn)

All Yak9UT's had an amoured screen as depicted in the AH Yak.........

It seems that many if not the majority of Yak9U's had non armoured screens as found on the Yak3.

The  Yak-9UT saw insignificant service in WW2. I am sure some would love it but the 9U is deadly enough. IMHO early Yaks should get more focus. In the same time it would take to make a 9 UT the could take the 9T and make in a 9M, which would be a lot more useful overall...

Who knows maybe they will add both...
