If china is not a superpower now, it will be in the next decade.

I hope we do not have another cold war with China, maybe the money they are bringing in will kill the remains of Commyism.

You have no idea the amount US military power overshadows China's military. It will take a lot longer than 10 years, if ever, for China to become a superpower.

China will probably never have the capability to project military power around the world on even a fraction of the scale at which the US can and does.

We have a global military presence, China would have trouble getting to Taiwan.

Came across this a few months ago.

"We left the million-man swim behind in about 1998, 1999," the senior Pentagon official said. "And in fact, what people are saying now, whether or not that construct was ever useful, is that it's a moot point, because in just amphibious lift alone, the Chinese are doubling or even quadrupling their capability on an annual basis."

The US military is already having a shortage of recruits with troops deployed in Iraq and Afganistan..
The USA backed off from Vietnam and that is alot smaller country than China.
It's your luck Iraqi army in general has had a bad morale, low determination and poor skills.

Having troops around the world doesn't tell anything of someones military superiority - it does only reflect different ideology.

Let me get this straight.  If one of the characteristics of a Super Power is the ability to project military power, then that means that Russia was never a Super Power.  Err, the Soviet Union I mean.

Bzzzrrrtttt. wrong answer. Propaganda. They had a nuclear blue water surface and submarine navy developed and trained to take on a US carrier task force, a significant ICBM force both land and submarine lanched, the largest army, the most tanks, a credible airforce and a satellite basing and logistics network around the world. Unlike the US, they were in the game fully expecting to have to fight at the drop of a hat.

We are all very lucky they didn't.

dont forget about their air power, IIRC they had 3 to 1 on us as far as bombers went.

You really can't say somone couldnt project power when the game plan to defend against them on both land and air involved tactical nukes.
