The "How To" Thread
« on: October 27, 2005, 10:07:50 PM »
Thought I would give some of the people frequently requesting this and that some insight on a good approach to see things they are wishing for taken seriously.

- Think how it would affect Game play, would it make everyone happy or just you? To be taken seriously you must consider how it would impact the community as a whole instead of making the game easier for you.
- Do a search and make sure you are not repeating something that has been beaten to death over and over.
- The less requests you make the better. If you request something new every day (or hour i some people's case). It will only attract the attention of people wanting to shoot down your thread (which is bad... try to get support instead)
- Spell check... it is hard to take someone serious who cannot complete one sentence without misspelling a word.
- Try not to invoke a flame, once the flaming starts the thread is likely not to recover.
- Research! Find viable information on the subject instead of asking for it and moving on to the next thing you are going to request.
Look at the amount of information in these threads

Killing in H2H is like burning ants. You can kill them by the hundreds but they'll still be there annoying the hell outa you. The piont of that is start geting kills in the MA then you can talk about "racking up kills".

Well... consider the scores database... It takes storage space. It takes compute cycles to update every day (more than once a day?). It takes up bandwidth when people go and check it. The scores page basically works off of your in-game ID.

Considering that it costs HTC money to provide this service, it makes sense that they only provide it for paying customers.

Oh, and, the logs are stored locally on normal servers.. So HTC has no way of accessing every HTH host's logs and compiling them. That is, if they keep logs at all (which I've never seen -- I've looked in the directories).

We'll not see HTH scoreboards because HTH mostly has unpaying customers.

EDIT: I would like to review local logs though. That would be a nice feature. Then hosts, if they want, could tally things up if they wanted to waste a couple hours of log-searching :)

1. Raider read my initial post and stop spamming. I would not say any of your ideas are worth taking time to look over, yet you post several a day.
2. Raider doesn't "rack up kills," even in H2H
3. There is no way of keeping track of scores for H2H, they are hosted by individuals not HTC servers so they cannot keep up with it.

That's beside the point ruk. The point was "it's a stupid request -- we already have a g-meter!!!". Let's stay on that subject :P
