In 1958 and 1959, Robert timm of Las Vegas and John Cook of Los Angeles flew a CESSNA 172 for 64 days, 22 hours, and 19 minutes, refueling was accomplished by handing a fuel hose to one of the pilots as they flew low and slow over a pick-up truck. the duo logged more then 1,558 hours in a little more then two months.

it just occurred to me that the solar plane could not beat the 9 days by rutan....

Well, Furby, technically it could have done that, it only needed to travel fast enough to follow the daylight during earth's rotation!

In order to follow the sun, at the equator, the plane would have to travel a little better than 1,000 mph.

Do-able, but what a fuel bill!

the whole point about following the sun... is that it is solar powered..

So, follow the sun to charge batteries, - when it's getting away, reverse to greet the sun again
