A couple of questions abour radar. If you take out a bases radar, can the enemy still see a dar coming into the base? Are they still able to see indivual cons beyound visual range?

What I'm getting at, is if you take out an airfields radar shouldn't they be "blind" to anything that is beyound visual range?

Not 100% positive about this but if you if take out a base radar, they can't see con blips within their radar range. They will see a dar bar and base/town will flash/blink if you're within 10 miles.

If you comin' NOE (under 400') you will not produce a dar bar or radar blip, whether base radar is up or down. You will however still cause the base and or town to flash.

If thats the case why even bother taking out radar? If the radars down shouldn't an airfield be blind to anything beyond visual range?

If a dar still shows even with radar down, well it seems like you still have radar. They shouldnt be able to see thier town blink either untill radar is back up.

and he's talking about with ground spotters, coast watchers and plane spotters stationed all around various theaters of operation you would still have a general vicinity and general number of airplanes in a given sector.

In many ways, the information given now in the form of darbars is less detailed than coastwatcher/planespotter reports because it does not give aircraft type, number, altitude and course.

Country wide radar serves the purpose of "Spotters". The current system makes perfect sense to me.

DAR altitute is 500' AGL.
If base radar is down, only a dar bar will show in the sector for aircraft above 500' AGL. No discreet dots will show.
The airfield will still blink when any aircraft is inside the radar circle, regardless of radar status.

Radar and how it works in the game is not new, and the reasons for everything have been well though out long ago. As Shane brought up, other means of determing the presense of enemy were available, and the AH system reflects reasonable game play.

Sometimes field dont blink even if there are dozens of enemies all around. Anybody know when and why it happens?

alot of people are right and wrong here not going to point fingers as well. one thing is for sure there was spotters in WW2 so yes in a way we are gettin off ez cause they should know whats comin in at what alt what lay out we brought with us. and if your under 200 when above water no dar bar or dot will apper regardless of radar being down. when on land and going over mountains hug the trees you will not cause a dar bar to show if radar is up or down no matter what if radar is down and you are 10k up you will cause a dar bar. now if your climbin mount olimpus you going to show up on dar but you get what i am sayin this is how dar bars work ~~hope this helps~~

I am in total agreement with ya. The town flashin when NOE is comming in or radar is down is total BS. No grownd spoters when the NOE is coming over water so there is no way anyone should know a mission is comming. Sometimes, people see the blinking, and they up fighters, and then we have to fight the single low slow LA7 before we hit the buildings. It ruins game play as we know it. FIX IT and PERK THE LALA!!!!!!1111

I remember AW has a different blip icon for bombers. Fighters were a dot, where bombers were a sideways L. Maybe that would help in the bomber part of the game if you could id an inbound bomber strike more easily.

Sure go and dis all the fishermen, coast guard and naval units + coastal spotters. The spotters used stereo binoculars and audio amplifiers for detecting range / direction of planes.

Which means that even in the dense fog the spotters were able to locate and report an object to HQ who was then able to determine if any friendly units were in the vicinity.

By the way if anyone would like to exchange the profanity filter to a spellchecker, my vote is cast.
