Research found in "OSPREY AIRCRAFT OF THE ACES-VOL.19: P-38 Lightning Aces of the ETO/MTO"(photo pg.34. profile pg.50,#10).

This is a P-38G named "EARTHQUAKE MCGOON" from the 14th Fighter Group, 37th Fighter Squadron in North Africa, August 1943. it was flown by Lt. Richard A. Campbell of Ferriday, Louisiana. This P-38G-15 was his assigned lightning throughout his tour with the 37th F.S.

"He saw action with the 37th F.S. from the end of the North African campaign to the invasion of Italy. He got his first two victories (bf109s) on 18 May 1943 whilst escorting B-17s on a raid against Trapani Milo airfield on Sicily. An MC202 and a third Bf109 followed on 15 June and 9 July respectively. Campbell participated in one of the first B-26 raids to Rome ten days later, and 'made ace' with a brace of Bf109s (plus one damaged) on 28 August. Campbell later served on the China-Burma-India front in 1945."
