Damn  and im not on ventrilo to hear him whine....

Patience  grasshopper,    I told you it looked like a space shuttles control panel.  I guess it will take several hours to perfect all the trims and settings,     but i'll speak to you later this evening  and i'm sure this wonderful community will  help out  with some useful advice.

kaz, fly around with it and get used to it. it will take you a week to get into, but you will be amazed at how much more control you get. stick with it. the trim wheels will show up in the ah setup>controls>joystick>select joystick screen. set them in there. and install the sofware that came with it. people say its crap, but they obviously have no idea how to use it.

if you need, i can send you my stick proflie aswell, to get you started. play about with it and try to learn as much about it as you can. and good luck!:aok

i got mine a few months ago. the first day i threw it on the ground in frustration. second day it had returned to my table, and fourth, it was helping me totally pwn guys with it. just stick with it, you'll see

yeah, they're pretty costly!

install the programming software, then put this in your; c > program files > saitek > software folder (i think thats the order anyway)

AH profile

look around it. i have mode 1 as fighter, mode 2 as bomber, and mode 3 as gv and misc.

its tough to get used to, but you'll get it quick enough i promise

Last week I received my new X52 and have been experimenting with various profiles made up with the SST (Saitek software). However, I continued to have problems with especially the POVs.

I gave up using an SST profile and have now assigned functions to the various buttons in the AHII SETUP. This is approximately how I set it up today:

Trigger = prim. weapon. I don´t use 2nd stage for you too easily loose bombs or the like.
Fire-button = Sec. weapon
Button A = Change sec. weapon
Button B = WEP
Button C = Flaps down
Hat 1 = POV horizontal
Pinkie = range radio
Hat 2 = Look around down
T1 = Auto pilot climb
T2 = Wheel brake left
T3 = Auto pilot straight
T4 = Wheel brake right
T5 = Arrestor hook
T6 = Lower / raise gear
Button D = look straight up
Button D + Hat 1 = Look around up
Button E = Toggle enemy lock (I am using "F11 and 'shift TAB' " for enemy lock)
Hat on Throttle = trims for roll and pitch

I also wish to program "Z" (Zoom) for gunnery but can´t find the function in the AHII setup (and HTC is not telling me where to look for it :cry ).

Setting it up in AHII, however, means that I do not have the pinkie as a 'shift' available and thus have a lot less functions in the stick. So, I am very curious as to how those of you who are satisfied with an SST profile have set it up.

Hey Pooface,

Just saw your profile. Thanks a lot!!

Amazingly you did not program Hat1. How do you change your POV? Can Hat1 still be used for that without programming that switch?

I have used the profiler to output key board straokes for

Throttle mouse pointer = 4 out puts
Throttle mouse button = 1 output
Throttle mouse wheel = 3 out puts (roll down, roll up & press)

The rest is via AH stick set up.

JS

Trigger = Fire primary and fire both when fully depressed.
Fire = fire secondary
A= clipboard toggle
B= WEP toggle
C= gun zoom toggle

Hat 1 = 8 way POV (horizontal with up being forward up)
Hat 2 up down = gun zoom in/out
Hat 2 left right = clipboard map zoom in/out

pinkie = range vox

T1 =auto speed (climb)
T2 =auto level
T3 = combat trim toggle (was auto angle up til last week)
T4 = gear toggle
T5 = hook toggle
T6 = damage report.

Twisty is set for rudder trim.

Throttle
D= asigned Vox
E= auto angle (was combat trim toggle til last week)
Hat 3 up down = look up/down
Hat 3 left right = move head left/right (for looking round cockpit pillars)

Wheel down = lower flap [and other stuff in vehicles and ships guns]
Wheel up = raise flap [and other stuff in vehicles and ships guns]
Wheel press = toggle dive brakes

Mouse pointer up = select secondary
Mouse pointer down = open doors/chute
Mouse pointer left = calibration mode
Mouse pointer right = calibrate

Mouse button = toggle engines

Top rotary = rpm
front rotary = Aileron trim
slider = elevator trim

I do not presently use the mode wheel for 2 other sets of options. But have considered just giving the mouse pointer diferent functions when not bombing such as flagging/tagging/check 6

yes, i leave the hat 1 open. you need to do this so that it will work in ah. what you need to do is set the profile and everything, and then go into ah. by default, the hat will only work for 4 directions, so you need to set the other 4 in the ah controls. go to setup and controls, then joystick, and then joystick map (i think). should be a list of all the controls. what you need to do is click on 'views' up top, to get the view settings list, and then assign the forward left, forward right, back left, and back right views to the corresponding hat functions. if you're still stuck, just give me a holler and i'll post some screenies for you:aok

Kazaa, for 'sensitivity' (speed) of controls, play around with the joystick settings. There is sliders you can adjust (one for every 10% of the stick range) as well as deadband and damping, they are individually adjusted for roll, pitch and rudder (pulldown box).

The higher the sliders go, the more sensitive the input will be.
Damping 'blurrs' the input, ie the higher that one is, the less accurate your input gets.
Deadband adds a 'no input range' from the center position of your stick, ie youll have to pull longer before you get a reaction to compensate for stick spikes if needed.

I have my sliders all to the top (except the first three for pitch and rudder - are 1/2 inch down to compensate for nouse bounce). Deadband and damping i recommend as little as possible. This makes for a very fine control, but also means you have to be careful with that stick handling, since very small movements will cause 'big' reactions.
21 is only half the truth.

Just a few comments on setting up the Saitek with the SST software.  You have to coordinate the SST configuration with the AHII keyboard/joystick mapping.  I finally realized it simplifies things if you think of the joystick and throttle as a keyboard.  Look in the AHII help to see a list of all the diffferent key/function defaults.  Then you program each JS button to send the keypress AHII expects.  If you want to set a button to open bombbay doors, just make it send an 'O'.  Also, spend time looking through the AHII/setup/joystick&keyboard mapping screens.  There are a lot of functions that don't have predefined keypresses - if you want to use one of them you need to coordinate the letter sent by the SST software with the AHII stick mapping.  Between the SST software and the AHII setup you could get to the point you don't even need your computer keyboard and mouse - everything can be programmed into the Saitek!  (though I haven't bothered to actually try that).  Just focus on one or two functions at a time and play with the setup until they work for you, then add another one or two.  Hope that helps.

You'll find it in the "VIEWS" section of joystick mapping listed as TOGGLE GUN ZOOM.
