More realistic scores

This will piss a lot of people off, but suppose you only get credit for a kill if the target is wheels up? This would eliminate vulchfests, while preserving real base capture suppression. Also, if perks were awarded for anyone near a base that was captured if they did damage to anything there, that would be cool too. That would motivate more people to do base captures. You might want to allot a perk multiplier for mission kills too, which would make a LOT more people form and sign up for missions.

Interesting idea, but it could be taken advantage of on the other side too.

Say you are low and slow and about to be beaten.  Drop your wheels.  Screw the other guy's stats over.

I like it, however make an addendum that says within the first minute or 40 seconds of hitting the runway.

By wheels up, I only meant off the runway. Dropping gear in flite would not keep you from getting the kill. And yes they vulched in the war, but not for sport. They were actually trying to do something useful, which is the precice antithesis of a vulchfest, which is vulching with absolutely no intention of capturing a base. A vulchfest is by definition shooting ducks in a barrel with no water.

Was watching a show on Boyington, and how he claimed 4-5 kills (out of 6) but they were on the ground. The Navy didn't count aircraft kills if the plane was on the ground, though.

So if the navy didn't, I don't think others did as well. Sure they counted them as "destroyed" but why give a pilot credit for killing a plane with nobody in it?

8th and 9th AAFs were the only ones to officially include ground kills in a pilots score, as their stated mission was "the complete and total destruction of the German Luftwaffe".

Rest of them credited strafing kills seperately.

This thread reminds me of my grandfather telling me that sometimes the bombers would put their gear down in battle as a sign of surrender if a significant number of the crew was mortally wounded or the plane was damaged beyond making it home.  The German fighters would escort them to their base where they would be taken prisoner.  It was considered bad form to fire on a plane with it's gear down (unless it was parked).

I vulch just because its so fun to watch that guy try to take off from hangers and runways over and OVER and over again...  Idiots like that fill me with a joy that not even perk points can replace.
