Gamma Setting?
« on: November 07, 2005, 10:56:31 AM »
The P51D panel was a bit too dark as compared to other models. I set my gamma to 1.4, it lightened it up a bit, will this upset other components in the sim?

What are some of your gamma settings?

Thanks.

Well for one it depends a lot on your vid card and monitor. I think the game as a whole is FAR too dark. Gamma 1.0 should be standard, if my desktop and vid card are already balanced. However for a long time I had to fly at 1.8, and that REALLY screws things up, I can't read green icons against the blue sky. I had to change to a sickly yellow, and can only barely read that (and sure can't read pilot names near me). Lately I'm down to 1.4 or so because I got a faster vid card than I started out with, but I still can't read pilots' names against the super bright gamma-induced sky. Ah1 had MUCh better color balance. Everything is just too far saturated in AH2, so that it hurts my eyes at times.

Problem is if I go down to lower gamma I can't see s***.

Have a 21" Trinitron SONY 2 years old with 9800Pro vid card, 1gig RAM, lots of mem plus 3.0MHz intel cpu.

Your right about the colors do not compliment themselves, harder to SEE
GREEN against BLUE, a mistake on Hi Tech's choice.

I'll stay with 1.4 and maybe change the color selection, NOT LIKE it
used to BE.

Thanks for the reply.

I have found yellow to be "acceptable" as a green substitute with crappy-high-gamma settings (and people want to fly at night with even HIGHER gamma?!?!? -- I bet only so they can see friendly icons against black skies easily!!).

White does not show up as well as you might think. It blends in as bad as green. A light grey-ish sort of works ( as well as the yellow does). For enemy fields I have red default and red-orange. All enemy icons are plain red. I've gone back to all friendly icons green for the moment (I'm testing a slightly lower gamma, but its still hard to see).

Hope that helps, color-wise.
