the curvature above the spinner looks a little much, and the frankenstein nose looks a bit square..

It looks to me almost like the nose is too square from a frontal profile perspective. The nose also seems to be too long when compared with other Merlin Spits.  Add to that the the "chin" seems to just down and then back to much rather than having a more gradual curve to it.  Some of the screen shots of the Merlin spits also make the chin look too flat in the sideways direction.  Without access to it to play with it I can't be sure though.

The nose IS too long and bulbous. Also note the location of the rear-most exhaust stacks on the Mk.I, they should be just about in line with the wing's leading edge. Below is a profile of a Spit Mk.I and that of a Mk.IX below it. Below these is a Spit PR.Mk.IX, with the bulged under-nose (increased size of oil tank, I believe)

Here's a shot of the USAF museum's Mk.V Trop. Note the nose is shorter than the Mk.IX too.

All of the new Spitfires seem to have the bulged PR.XI nose.

Yes, that is it Widewing.  They have the larger oil tank of a long ranged PR Spit that causes the mishaped chin.

Minor issue, but.... I don't think the spit1 had as much of a "bump" on each side for the engine, I think it was much rounder, smoother.

Since I'm playing this game i never saw somebody flying a Spit MKI.

Who need that plane? You will never see it up in the air.

The best answer to this Spit is the BF109-E4. How often do u see a E4 in here?

You don't see that many of them in the MA, but they are used in Scenarios (esp. BoB!), other special events and in the CT.

And I saw some 109E-4's last saturday in the Malta scenario, I even flew in one...

Thats what I was on about, the bumps either side weren't seen until later Merlins and Griffons were fitted.
They were needed for clearence.

I think the model looks alright, but yeah that nose is pretty off looking, way to long. But other then the cockpit the plane looks about the same as in game! lol Don't get me wrong I can't wait to fly it. :-)
I'd love to get my hands on a spit or hurri with the 8 .303's but with an engine that doesn't cut out like those early merlins!

Kev: sorry, I thought you were talking about length/oil tank bulge.

Nomde: You did a wonderful job skinning it, but we're not talking about the skin, per se. Rather we're discussing the mesh the skin is applied to. (*pointing out the obvious, sorry*). With our current model we don't have that... it might just be a slight oversight in the 3d mesh work, or it may have been a time saving measure (hey, not that I agree with it, just thinking up reasons for it).

Krusty, I was just ribbin ya guys :D
Honestly gents, skinners or 3d modelers we're one team. Alot of work goes on behind the scenes and we try to give the community the best plane layout possible.
Feedback like what's being given is whats needed to pickup anything we may have missed, it let's us know that eyes are upon us :noid

I got the ribbing part :)

Really, eh? I almost figured it was just giving you an updated skin viewer and letting you create the skins needed to cover the model. I had no idea it was any more involved :)
