I've been a big fan of the last two Canon's I've purchased.  We currently have the SD400.  It's a 5 megapixel camera, smaller than a pack of cigarettes, and has a 3x optical zoom w/ Carl Zeiss lens, impressive for such a small package.

I just bought one of these:

The camera used to retail at $600+. Now, it's less than $400. Google is your friend.

I would not bye one of those camera printers that only print pics from a camera.  The cost per print is way too high.  If you get a kodak, there print service only cost 15 cents per print. There are also a lot of places to upload to, then they mail them to you.

Depends. Your not going to find much that you can do that doesn't have a lot of shutter lag below $1,000. I use a Cannon S410 which is a basic 4 MP with a CF card. The rebel you can find for a lil less then 800 now a days and it has zero shutter lag.

I think this might be the one sandman posted

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/S5100/S51A.HTM

You can find it in the low two hundreds, nice bang for the buck.

I think subliminal marketing sold you on this camera...:D

From its elegantly curved profile to its superb functionality

Canon is a nice choice, Curval. Congrats!

My wife just purchased a Fujifilm E550 for around $280 on clearance.  It is a 6.3MP camera.  I'll be going to the Kalamazoo AirZoo tomorrow with my son, Pop, and Brother.   I'll post some pictures from this camera.

Personally, go to the website:  http://www.dpreview.com

It's close. That's the S5100 which was a 4 megapixel camera. I bought an S5200 which is 5 megapixel.

FWIW, megapixel size means nothing unless you're thinking of blowing up photos to poster size or larger. If you got over 3 megapixels, your camera is good for 99% of the photograhy that you'll shoot.  Professional photographers do not care about megapixels, there are many more important features of a camera than megapixels.

True enough. I dial mine down to 3.2 mp.

I bought the camera because it had other features I was interested in... shutter priority, aperature priority, control of ASA settings, etc.

Paid 200 bucks for my sony.  Just the basics but its very upgradable and takes good  photos for photo album stuff.  Maybe not professional quality, but who can tell.
