If you find yourself in need of a radiator you want to check on-line.  I had to change the one in my 94 wrangler and found a new one for a pretty good price (was changing the water pump and pulled a little too hard to remove it).

You would be surprised how reasonable they can be.

Oh, and be glad you weren't the deer.

well you were in a truck, so it is different, but if you were in a car, your instincts were all wrong.

if you are going to hit, accellerate as fast as possible.

if you are braking, and slower in a car there is a MUCH higher chance of the deer coming in to say hello through the windshield. the faster you are going the better chance of the deer going right over the roof.

just an FYI many do not know.

This is so wrong in so many ways! Not all cars are created the same! If you had a sloping hood, you'd just be launching that critter through your windshield at a higher speed in your theory!

Ask any state highway patrol or defensive driver instructor, SLOWING DOWN when a deer is spotted is the prudent thing to do, not speed up! LOL!:rofl

Hit a deer once in my 1975 Honda CVCC. The deer and my car were about the same size. I musta pulled back on the stick at just the right time, cause she went right under my tires. Not even a scratch on the car.. (quite a bit of blood to hose off though).

it may have been a while, but that IS what they taught us in drivers ED here in Wisc.

the higher the speed the more you deflect the deer away from the passenger compartment.

but hey what do i know, i only have 3 relatives that have hit over 20 deer total, living in the UP and north Wisc.

Deer= 20 points and one bar of health.  Also adds a star to your wanted level though.

With deer, moose or other big critters on or near roads its best to brake hard, even after they get out of the way.  Don’t steer to avoid until collision is eminent, steer behind them whenever possible.  Don’t drive past them at over 20 mph.  Many of them behave as if they want to get hit and wait to jump into your path at the last second.

The speed up idea sounds pretty stupid.  Not only is the potential energy greater, but deer often bound and vary in size; their CG AGL is not consistent.  More cars, and even trucks, today have sloping hoods.  There are too many variables to bet that a deer will fly over the cabin if hit at over 70 mph.
