The only rule was that they couldn't replace anything.
Damn thing still ran.
Heh, in the police academy we did some fire training. One of the training exercises was putting out a car fire with handheld extinguishers. Our instructors dumped a bunch of diesel and gas on a Chevy Lumina sedan and lit it. Two of us put it out. They dumped some more, lit it again. Put it out. Repeat probably 8-10 times, lighting different areas to simulate things like engine fires, fuel tank fires, trunk fires, passenger cabin fires, and finally fully engulfed fires.
Afterward, the instructor hopped in and started the damn thing up. He didn't try to put it in gear, but the engine was running. Wipers even worked if you stuck a screwdriver in and articulated the switch (the handle had melted). Of course, the wipers were gone as was the windshield, but the wiper arms moved back and forth.

I couldn't believe it. The car was gutted and the engine still ran. Eventually it stopped after we cut the fuel line and lit that.

I've got some pretty cool pics of it but they're pretty big and I've got no place to host.
