i have started on skins before but never finished, because it took too long to do, but now the spits have been redone, and the skin is all in one file, it will be much easier. i would like to try a mk8 'lady ellen III'. i dont know whether or not anyone else had this in mind, but if not, i would really llike the chance to do it. if i find that i cant get it right, i will gladly lets some else, do it, because it's sucha  beautiful paintjob. anyway, here it is. dan/guppy, i would really appreciate any info and pictures you could find for me. i have this profile below but nothing else. ty in advance:aok  [edit] i know that that profile certainly isnt the best. it even shows the tail to be curved, not pointed! lol. dan, it would also be fantastic if you could tell me what the writing under the cockpit is

I don't have any info on it in any of my books, but I'd wait for Dan to give his say.  I don't think that profiles have a great degree of reliability.  That profile, for example, lacks a tropical filter and places the fighter in Italy.  That strikes me as suspicious.  I would not be surprised to find that it was in fact a Mk VIII and the profiler simply had a Mk IX profile to work with and so, Spits being Spits, just used the Mk IX profile.

sure thing roger. you'd do it better than me anyhow lol. are you doing the same plane or just one from the same squadron?? if not, i would really love to do that one, for the mk8 if thats ok? i may mess it up or not have time, so if that happens, you have no competition, but i would love to give it a go.

like i said karnak, i suspected that that profile isnt quite right:) like you said, it's missing a filter, and has it placed in italy 1944, which doesnt seem right i know. i will see what dan says

It is in fact a Spitfire FIX and the profile, at least from all I know is wrong in that the Spits were camoflaged in the dark earth, dark brown camo not the ETO camo.  Its from May 1943 roughly

And here's a photo of a Spit IX from the same group taken shortly before the image of Lady Ellen before they added the red surround and bar to the star.
Looks like MTO desert camo to me.

Question, though, are you sure there's no red border around the star? I know that the pigments in the old color film bleed like holy hell, and there is a faded border around the star. Is that a red outline that just isn't showing as red?

Definately a red border, which also clarifies the time as in 43 when that marking was used for a short time.
