ME262 Nervous flight. (semi story)
« on: November 15, 2005, 06:11:43 PM »
Today before work I decided to join my buddies in the taking of a few bases. After a couple hours of play I had time for one more flight so I thought the 262 would be nice. I have only flown this plane once in the training arena so I knew I had a tough time ahead form all the stories I have heard.

Once in the air I was flying around getting used to the plane and thought it was finnaly time to get engaged in battle so I floated over to the nearest furball.

Zoom in and miss, Zoom in again and miss so it took a bit of getting used to. Finnaly I shot down my first 2 planes with the cannons (rightous cannons that is) and I'm making my way for one last pass. I see some B24's up ahead so I thought this might be an easy target, and here is where the story get's interesting.

I'm zooming in at 500mph start comming down from the bombers 8'oclcok but I'm used to the fighters going a little faster and I here that wrenching sound of metel striking metel and my stomach starts to sink. So I glance out the left side of my cockpit only to find my left alieron missing and not the hole wing. "BLACKOUT" OH crap I have pilot wound as well.

I didn't notice the blood on the canopy due to the intence collision but  now I have a challenge on my hands. My first time in a 262 in the MA and I have the worst damage you can get when your as far from the base as I was. I vox my teamates letting them know what has happend and they suggested just ditching as it will be very difficult to land. I calmed my nerves a little and started making my way home.

Ok after 2-3 blackouts I have my airbase in sight and start banking left then right to bring as much speed down as possible. I glance down at my fuel gauge and notice I only have enough gas for one aproach. If I don't make it then it's a ditch and I'm going to lose this wonderfull plane.

I pass the airfield making sure I will be able to line myself up with the runway dropping my gear and flaps as much as possible for more drag cause I'm still at a good 300mph. I'm working my way in crossing my rudder and elevators dragging as much as possible cuase I don't have much time for a blackout. Finnaly I'm a good 500 yards from the runway and I notice I'm not going to hit as soon as I though so I knew if I landed on my gear I was going to roll off the end of the field. I bring my gear up and set myself as straight as possible and low as possible trying as well to get my speed down under 150 so I can belly it in but it was close..

Tooooo close that is and right when I'm about 10ft above the runway I see that tunnel, That tunnel of death when your so low but I let my controller go and let the plane fly itself in. /pause nothing, no sound, then BANG and the screeching noice of metel and pavement as the tunnel comes back. I see that the plane treated me good and set down perfect right under 150mph. but it's not over.

As I come to a stop there was no sound, only relief. My engines were even off as the last drop of fuel went through the engine then BAM..... BAM BAM BAM I see a bullet hole through the window, someone still unkown was on the airfeild with there sights on me trying to take me out before I made it to the tower but I did it. Even with a pounding heart and shaking limbs I was able to make it to the tower with the 3 kill victory under my name.

I heard hootin and hollerin from my teamates and it felt good. It was the best flight ever and more fun than I have ever had with this game.

Well that's it and I thought this was worth sharing, Only thing is that I didn't think of recording it. My adreniline was pumping so hard that it was hard to think straight but what a video that would have been.

Until next time, These are Bodine's stories.

My first 262 experience was a lone Lanc kill and when I landed I skidded sideways, flipped, and blew up. Yours is WAY more glamorous.

the Perk Rides have a low eny value so they dont really collect much in perks .

theres several tricks to flying that hairdryer in the MA ... the main one is paitence

its also good to wing up with other 262's and pick up on what they do and how they fly it .

Hey Jethro, thanks for sharing. That was great. We've all had many terrific flights like that, over the years, and most of us enjoy reading about others' exploits. I know I can look back over the years and recall memorable fights/ flights from AirWarrior and AH1/2. It's what keeps me coming back, even though these days it's only in the H2H arena.

that describes pretty much every 262 flight i have....

2 or 3 pings from 303's and im dead...... the armour for the pilot is useless unless there a engine there instead... 262s and the 38s are all the same with pilot wounds.

doing better than me if you can get one kill and not auger in that infernal jet.

i never climb much past 250 perks without losing them all, ever.

Remeber the night the MA went down? Jets were free in the backup MA! It was like jet night in AW all over again! Maybe we should have an amnesty night here, where all planes are free. Might expose some people to planes  that they otherwise wouldn't fly. Sorry bout hijacking the thread...oops

Good story Jethro!

The first time I flew a 262 I dove on a lone Typhoon, compressed and flew straight into the ground. Talk about embarrassing!
(at least the typhy driver was kind enough not to say a word)

Two kills on your first flight is doing OK!
