British MP: Ban Inbreeding Before It's Too Late

I can't beleive it's not banned allready.  :rofl

Marriages between cousins should be banned after research showed alarming rates in defective births among Asian communities in Britain, a Labour MP said last night.

The report, commissioned by Ann Cryer, revealed that the Pakistani community accounted for 30 per cent of all births with recessive disorders, despite representing 3.4 per cent of the birth rate nationwide.

"We address problems of smoking, drinking, obesity and we say it's a public health issue, therefore we have to get involved with persuading people to adopt a different lifestyle," the MP for Keighley, Bradford, told BBC2's Newsnight programme last night.

"I think this should be applied to the Asian community. They must look outside the family for husbands and wives for their young people."

It is estimated that more than 55 per cent of British Pakistanis are married to first cousins, resulting in an increasing rate of genetic defects and high rates of infant mortality. The likelihood of unrelated couples having the same variant genes that cause recessive disorders are estimated to be 100-1. Between first cousins, the odds increase to as much as one in eight.

In Bradford, more than three quarters of all Pakistani marriages are believed to be between first cousins. The city's Royal Infirmary Hospital has identified more than 140 different recessive disorders among local children, compared with the usual 20-30.

The findings were expected to be condemned by the Asian community, in which many see the tradition of marriages between first cousins as culturally fundamental.

"You have an understanding, you have the same family history," said Neila Butt, who has had two children with her husband, Farooq, her first cousin. "It's just a nicer emotional feel."

It's not just among Asain communities:   The royal families of Europe have had health problems...

Czar Nicholas and Alexandria had a child who was hemopheliac, and that gene was passed to him by his grandmother, Queen Victoria.

Makes you wonder...

Children of non-related couples have a 2-3% risk of birth defects, as opposed to first cousins having a 4-6% risk. Genetic counseling is available for those couples that may be at a special risk for birth defects (e.g. You have a defect that runs in your family) In plain terms first cousins have at a 94 percent + chance of having healthy children. Check the links section for more information on genetic counselors. The National Society of Genetic Counselors estimated the increased risk for first cousins is between 1.7 to 2.8 percent, or about the same a any woman over 40 years of age.

It is estimated that 20 percent of all couples worldwide are first cousins. It is also estimated that 80 percent of all marriages historically have been between first cousins.

26 states allow first cousin marriages; Most people can marry their cousin in the US.

That's a pretty small health hazard to the baby. 40+ women having children has a high risk of birth defects too, should it be banned then?

It's legal here as it should be IMO.

Well mora considering Finland has a high rate of inherent genetic diseases, IMO they should ban the marriage of second cousins too. Finns are pretty inbred due to historic reasons.

I married a mediterranean girl who is herself a mix of two nationalities. Enuff said.

Well if we go by the holy "Think of the children" POV,  then there's a whole lot of people that shouldn't be allowed to marry. To be sure we could use castration too.

And repeal the "dead wife's sister act" while you're at it!

I'd say it more like 'think of your kids becoming three legged/retarded' kind of line. There are billions of women in this world. WTF would you marry your own cousin?

Roughly translated it means you aint going out much.. Live in the middle age.

Not speaking of you now mora, I doubt you married your cousin.

I don't care what their reasons are. Those people aren't violating my rights in any way, so I don't have reason(or right) to control and legislate them.

From a financial point of view in the uk we all contribute to the NHS out of our pay packets  roughly 20 pound per week about  35 dollars  to healthcare  so that if we get taken ill we get free treatment.

If these inbreds are taken up hospital space because they cant marry outside of their families  somethings up.

I pity their kids.

Well if you start to legislate how people should live from the the public health care cost perspective, then it will hit yourself at some point. There would be even better reasons to legislate what people should eat. Goverment diet only for everyone ,and no alcohol or any drink with sugar content which is bad for your teeth(I doubt the UK is spending much on that department :)).

Uh you don't think they are not violating you if they contaminate the gene pool? Pretty short sighted thinking there.

The inbreading can hit you in ways you can't seem to imagine. Starting from retarded/violent behaviour where you too can be affected and ending to your own children getting mixed up with these people and getting the damaged genom into your family.

I know I do not want my children to inherit any kind of genetic disease. Not if I can help it anyway. Even though I'm only 5th generation finn I already carry some of the finnish heritage inside me. Unfortunately.

You missed the Jamie Oliver tv-show where he campaigned against the sugarcoated greasebomb diet of english schoolsystem? He showed the school administration that you can make healthy food for the same price at which they were producing industrial crap for the kids. Processed pizza, hamburgers that had meat-like soft material between them and french fries fried in animal fat. Vending machines to top it off.. no wonder they had a problem.

In fact the englishmen recently studied the finnish school nutrition system to get some pointers on a healthy school diet.

If I go to a control freak mode, then I could think of many many other things that could potentially be much more harmful to me than first cousins, 40+ women, or some other retards having children.
