How old are you, how bad are your hangovers and how long do they last. I am attempting to find out if it's getting old that is turning me into a wimp.

age: 38
badness of average hangover(1=ok,10=dead) :7
duration of hangover: 1 day

I never get hangovers, mostly because I never drink myself silly.  Whenever I do drink, I always drink 1 glass of water per each drink I've had before the night is over.  Never woken up with a headache when I've done that.

The times I didn't, and had a hangover headache, oranges worked the best for me.  Assuming I wasn't sick to my stomach of course.   :)

It is defiantely age that is affecting you man...

I used to be able to "pound 'em back" with the best of them...example...on my 21st birthday I did 21 shots of rum to celebrate...fortunately threw most of it up at various times during that evening, but the next day I had my first beer at 10.30am.

Just last Saturday we had our Christmas Party...I overdid it for the first time in a loooong time.  I was useless for the whole of Sunday....my hangover was unreal!

Hangovers have gotten much worse with age. I usually spend the whole next day after holding my couch down.

Age does affect hangovers: you just can't metabolize that crap as fast as you used to.
So does a bunch of other things.  Many (but not all) California wines, for example, give me colossal hangovers, whereas the European models often don't.  Of course, in such matters I am (usually) a patriot.  :D

When I had hangover with upset stomach pickled herring did the trick for me felt like new in about 30 minutes after chowin' down a half a jar.

40 going on 18

But I believe the best cure is don't drink which is the course I took about 2 years ago.

Ok con story time   :) I drank aprox. 1/3 to 1/2 of a bottle of Jose Quervo especial. At this point I would have been ok had I stopped.  BUT   :) one of my last coherent memories of the night was at the bar and Sally handed me a pitcher of beer to hand to somebody at a table behind me.  My last memory of the night was standing outside durring the fire alarm with "Sinclare" and drinking from said pitcher.  ( I found the empty pitcher at my CPU the next morning  ;) )

I woke up at 6:30 am on Sunday with the worst hangover I've ever had.  I litteraly thought my brain was bleeding it hurt so bad, worst headache in my life.  I was sick too, only there was nothing in my stomach but the remains of that pitcher, naste old sour 1/2 digested beer, tap beer at that.  I was screwed in a big way because I knew I had a 4 hour drive ahead of me.

I dry heaved for about two hours before I finaly got smart.  I knew I had to throw up to get better.  So I started drinking water and swooshing it around in my gut. HEHE sounded cool.  Basicly I was cleaning the walls of my stomach from the crud, it felt good too.  About 2 min later I hurled HUGELY! and repeated the proccess.  at about 9 am I went back to bed and slept until 10 or 10:30 (i think).  When I woke up I was really tired and worn out, but my headache was gone and I didn't feel pukey any longer.

Water is the key i think.

Normaly I don't get them, but this one was a 9 that I was wishing was an 11   ;)

Ah... what a fitting day for this thread.

We had the company christmas party last night (translation: free beer).  I really did not feel especially drunk (no nauseau, spins... I was completely coherent, just felt a bit buzzed.) I ate some biscuits when I got home, and drank as much water as I could cram into myself, yet today I've been almost completely incapacitated.  I actually had to go home at lunchtime and GO BACK TO BED!?!

This is not right.  I think that the beer they provided (fat tire - dirty micro-brew crap) is to blame.  I could've drank the same amout of St. Pauli, or Paulaner and probably felt okay today.

Puppies.

I'm a mean drunk.. and I'm significantly larger than the genetic code for this geographic area.. the result being badly bruised kneecaps after a bender. This in itself is usually cure enuff for a hangover... hard to bemoan yer head's increased dimensions if yah can't walk to the crapper next morning for that much enjoyed morning after enduro-peeing contest.

As a side note, the 'unnnnngh' AM blues and nasuea associated with a hangover are quickly dispelled by a fat zepplin-esque joint, however my shins and knees often take a week to mend.

I have two proven cures to share before i start.
1. Go to healthfood store and get some cysteine. Its an amino acid thats present also in eggs and is what your liver uses to break down the toxins. Its quickly used up, so some more before you go to bed may save you a headache. Also Vitamin B6 is supposed to be good. Ive got some and it certainly hasnt made me worse  :).
2. Water and aloe vera juice + some B vitamins. Havent tried the aloe juice yet, its supposed to fix the stomach probs.

Anyway

Age: 25
Severity: 7-8 (without utilising cures)
Duration: 1-2 days

Last week I had the following
Severity: 10
Duration: 5 days

I had alcohol poisoning and cyanide poisoning from dragging some of our furniture outside and setting it alight. The fumes are very poisonous. I'll tell the story one day when it stops giving me nightmares...

Good thread..

You know, many consider Fat Tire to be one of the best beers in the world.

Gavor -- generally any bender ending with your setting your furniture on fire is gonna have a week-long hangover.

I've found that about 75% of my hangover is dehydration.  I force myself to consume large quantities of water/gatorade and usually I feel pretty good.  One thing to stay away from is ibuprofen or Tylenol or drugs like that.  You can mess up your liver if you combine them with alcohol.
