Farewell friends!
« on: November 22, 2005, 08:41:57 AM »
11-22-05

After 10 years of being online and playing flight sims like AW,WW2OL, and AH, I have decided it is time to go offline completely. For the past three months I have been staying up until the wee hours of the morning and trying to run a business at the same time. Im exhausted.

Trying to burn the candle at 3 ends, Id goto work mid morning, and slip in again after lunch to play a little, then work later than normal, come home, spend a few hours watching tv or something with my wife ( who has always been way too easy on me) and then jump on the game till 2 or so in the morning. Its really starting to get to me.

Since I have little to no self control when it comes to this game, and Ive tried just going without, only to come back, playing more than ever, I decided to pull the plug entirely. As it is it costs close to $100 a month to play, when I include my ISP, game, and webspace, and that alone will be a nice bill to do away with.

Ive made alot of good friends in these games over the years and have loved every minute of it. Its going to be tough not having it to play, but Im looking forward to doing other stuff I used to do before flight sims, and putting more work into my business.

If you have ever seen "Hang em High", you will recall the scene where the men are about to be hung, and the last guy that speaks, talks of the ills of drinking and how it put him in the spot he was that day. Well now let me say...use some restraint in your gametime. If you are young and single its one thing, but even then, alot of time can be wasted.

That said, Id like to thank the Nightmares VMF-101 squad and all my friends from AW and here for making this such a fun experience for me. I cant possibly name everyone, so I will just say if I know ya in the game, I had fun with ya at some point through the years if nothing more than joking around!

As for the game, I was told in the DA not long ago by a good spirited player, that trim is a big part of it. My stick doesnt support a wheel for trim, but I bet it works great when you have it. So if you find yourself just behind in the turns chances are they arent using combat trim. I tried this in the DA in a spitv and it was night and day. The guy who I wont name, was coming around in the first turn and popping me. He said, put your elevator trim all the way to the bottom. Dont touch any other trim. What a difference it made. The fight atleast lasted longer than one turn, and if I had a trim wheel I probably could walk up the trim thru the turn to be even better. Just a little info that definately seems to help.

I will be flying for the rest of the week, but after that I will be going back to the stone age. Thanks HTC for creating such a great game. Im sorry I will miss TOD. Good luck with it. If all goes well I wont be back. I mean that in a good way. So thanks for the memories!

  all...its been a good ride!

Dude, you are doing it all wrong.  Lose the job and the wife, and everything will be ok again.

See ya in 2 weeks

FiLtH, sounds like you're making a very wise decision, and I applaud you for it. (clapclapclapclap)  I know from personal experience it won't be easy, but in a little while you'll really appreciate your choice.

GL to you, and stay in touch.

Filth,

Who am I to commune with in my addiction during the workday?   Call me if you need someone to talk you through the nightsweats, chills, and puking associated with AH withdrawal.

BTW does this mean the payments are going to stop from you wife for giving you sheet about not working?

Filth I support your goal and wish you the best, sir!  I hope you find time to squeeze in a couple of sorties a week or so to!
If you were commenting on the trim from what we were talking about, I have since been screwing around with it even more and there is definitely an advantage to having elevator trim adjusted in-fight.  When going over top or doing a flat turn to sucker opponent, adjusting elevator trim to "help" the plane get a little bit extra seems to be a big plus!  I have tried it in planes that I never flew well before like the 109's and lala's and ki's and its working like a charm.  Easily outturned a spit in a la7 yesterday and I wont even mention what a hurri can do! lmao!  It seems that when u want to go up, then trim it.  If you want to go down, then trim it.  I have it mapped to hat switch from now on!  OK enuff about the trim!  Good luck sir and best wishes for you and yours!
