avi making for Movie Maker 2
« on: November 24, 2005, 03:46:50 PM »
Hey folks:

I need a little help with the avi part of film viewer. I'm making a music video for a pals song, it's all ww2 aviation films except where a part of the song mentions 'playstation 2', so i want to add the only colour shot, and will use AH instead of playstation2.

So i went offline , made a film, cut the length  and content i wanted, made a second AH film file. Thats ok. Now I want to make an AVI, so i can export it to Windows movie maker2.

So questions are, I can't get the avi to work right. what FPS and codec should i use for best export to Windows Movie Maker? I almost had it set at Mpeg4 codec, and fooled around with compression, but at this rate it'll take me forever to get it right. So I'm hoping someone has been in the same position and can save me a butload of time with a few correct moves to do.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I usually use fraps (get it at http://www.fraps.com ) to make an avi out of the AHF. Ditch sound (awful and only increases file size) and record at about 30 fps.

Fraps dumps an avi file in wichever folder you choose. Just import that into WMM and edit it from there.

I cant really say about codecs, since i usually just tell WMM the max file size(about 8 MB per min) and take what i get.
21 is only half the truth.

I use the AH Film Viewer to export AVI. I use 640x480, 25fps and Mpeg4, which WMM imports just fine.

The trick with AHFV is getting used to the zoom and view controls in both viewing and exporting modes - they behave slightly differently depending on what you're doing.

DoK you have some really great movies.  I seem to have decent luck using the AH avi's using DivX 5.0.2 and 640x480 and 12fps and WMM.  Does the fps dictate the size of the file?  I havent tried all the fps settings yet. Guess I will try and play some more with those settings too.
