AH Windows Error
« on: November 24, 2005, 08:26:54 PM »
I have been getting the following error alot lately.

I have the error text file if that would help as well.
Anyone have an idea what is going on?  It dumps me from the game and will not let me reetner this game without a reboot.  Some times I can fly for a few hours without a problem, others I can't get wheels up without it failing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Actually im getting a similar thing, and ive tried a number of different things to try cure it. But, i think its my vid card. I overclocked it, and theres an option to say restore these settings on reboot, which i checked (this is so if it becomes unstable it will revert back to a known good setting on next reboot if you dont check that box). Now when i suspected it may have been the vid card and my OC'ing of it, i went into the card properties and turned overclocking off, but totally forgot to clear the checkbox. So next time i rebooted it reverted back to the overclocked position, and it still continued to lock up randomly. So i dismissed the overclocked card as the issue. What i have only just realised is that its still running in the overclocked mode.

I guess, its a matter of trying one thing at a time till it dissapears. Which may take a while. BUt make sure you are certain about the assumptions you are making...

PS - i havent got round to trying it since i realised my card was still OC'd only last night... Will let ya know if that was it after a few weeks of flying...

Typically it is a driver related problem.  Usually video card drivers.  What video card and driver versions are you guys using?

I was looking for the NVidia version number, but now I know what card you have, you should be running the 61.77 drivers from NVidia.  Any later drivers will cause problems with that video card.

Skuzzy, i downloaded the 61.77 for XP drivers. Just installed it, even though it said these are older than my current drivers. Will let ya know if the problem persists - its pretty random, so it may take a while.

For future refernce; uninstall original or previous drivers before adding new ones; less likily to get corrupt or left behind files and is less confusing to the computer that way.

Absolutely.  I hoped you purged the newer drivers before installing the 61.77.  If not, you could be ion for some rather odd happenings.

Instructions for proper install of video drivers.

Pick 1 driver:

Nvidea - http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp - go here and download the drivers to your desktop.

ATI - http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/....x=5&submit.y=4 - go here and download the drivers to your desktop.

Omega tweaked drivers. Recommended by Nvidea and ATI - http://www.omegadrivers.net/main.php - go here and download the drivers to your desktop.

Now get this:
http://www.driverheaven.net - Put it on your desktop

Now install DRIVER CLEANER

Go to add and remove programs and remove all references to ATI or Nvidea.

Restart in safe mode. Usually by clicking the f8 button during reboot.

DO NOT INSTALL ANYTHING if windows asks.

.

Run DRIVER CLEANER. Pick the appropriate filter in the scroll down box AND CLICK THE CLEAN button.

Then restart. DO NOT INSTALL ANYTHING once again. It's ok, all will be well :)

When you reach your desktop click on the driver you downloaded and follow prompts.

Restart..

If you have any problems read the helpfile that comes with DRIVE CLEANER.

I removed the old driver via the control panel add/remove etc. Then rebooted, and re-installed the 61.77 drivers. Played for a few hours without problems last night. So far so good, but its early days, as sometimes it was weeks between crashes.

So far, so good. No micropauses (i think that was my onboard soundcard) since putting the audigy back in, and no CTDs since updating to 61.77 drivers. Still ill give it another week before im convinced the problem is fixed.

Cheers!

Sorry I hadn't got around to reposting here, but I forgot about it until I had another spate of problems.

I had updated drivers right after my first post.  Those worked for several days but I am again having problems.

Today I went through the suggest removal and cleaning.  Then I reinstalled the current Nvidia drivers.

First flight tonight and it again had the windows error about 2 minutes into it while switching views.

81.95 Forceware for Windows XP
My video card is GEForce 6600 by PNY.

Weird thing is that I flew after that for about 4 hours and had not one problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Had a micro-pause again last night. It happened when cycling through views etc and paused for about 1 1/2 secs or so. No CTDs yet, though.

This happened again last night.  I wonder if it has anything to do with the loading of the new terrain.

I would take off, and climb out.  I got the windows has experienced an error game shutdown 3 times.

The first time I was switching views and someone else was talking.  The second I was switching views and hitting the mic button at the same time.  The third time I had hit ESC to bring up the map board.

I rebooted after the first one.  I shut the computer completely down after the second.  After the third I shut it down and walked away for 10 mins then restarted the computer and it ran fine the rest of the night.

After the second time I tried to run a different game and I got the message that it could not start DirectX 9.0C etc etc etc.
