Might want to do searches on the tree topic -- there are actually very good reasons why things are the way they are.

To make a long story short -- updating status of trees destroyed would KILL connect bandwidths, and hammer frame rates.

HTC has appropriately decided to use computer power for what's in the air, or tanks we're in.

Try to approach higher a bit, land closer to 1/3 of runway and trees will never disturb you.

The point is that no airfield designer would leave trees 20 feet from the end of the tarmac.  Just as no airfield designer would put the end of a runway pointing at a mountainside.

If fields (vehicle and air) were round instead of square, they could be rotated so the runways could face any direction.  This would also make bombing a little more interesting since you wouldn't know what direction you should come into the field from without doing a little recon first.  If I'm correct, right now all small air bases have their runway running from south west to north east.  If the field was round you could rotate it to any direction, like out of the way of that mountain at the end of the runway.

Trouble is, the map is put together with "tiles" of graphics -- and can you imagine what a pain it would be to tile together round images? You're suggestion would involve a huge amount of work.

Take a quick look through this thread, in which HTC explains why things are the way they are:

I expect the bosses will address your questions clearly; after reading it way back then, I understood the situation much better too.

I know. Ask map creaters why they surround airfields with mountains, its just beyond me. But trees dont placed by map creaters, they placed randomly over map afaik.

My solution would be to expand the airfields, just add half a mile of plains around the standard fields, you won't be bothered by any trees

I just read the link Simaril posted, it appears 'just' adding half a mile extra would be relatively hard to make!

The same  solution has actually been asked
