If going up to 2Gb memory go for Mushkin EP dual 1Gb kits.

I couldn't get Corsair 2Gb dual kits to run at CAS2 (only 2.5) on my A8V despite numerous correspondence with Corsair tech support.
They were supposed to run at 2-3-3-6, not 2.5-3-3-6.

Put in a couple of Mushkin Enhanced Performance 1Gb sticks (total 2Gb), now running happily at 2-3-2-6.
Everything in the BIOS for memory timimgs set to auto.
Booted 1st time all the way into Windows, runs AH2 fine without a single problem.

good to know.... any performance increase noticable from 1gig to 2?

I have Corsair 1mb xms Cas 2.

Game runs a lot smoother as you can cache everything in the main memory.
Usage is around 1.2Gb system memory for Windows and AH2 (using 1024 ingame textures), 50mb or so video memory for misc textures.

Correction it was Mushkin High Performance (HP), not EP as stated in 1st post.

Newegg has a great deal on them for $228 - $30 mail in rebate = $198

Kev - hope I'm not taking your thread too far off topic by asking this here...

I've got a system with an AMD64 on that A8V board, pretty much like you have. After the Linux experiment, I'm trying out WinXPx64. It installed easily, and I can run MS applications like Office 2003. The crappy old video card I had needed to be replaced because when moving windows around the screen, the newly positioned window would take ½ second to paint. A secondhand Radeon 9600 fixed that - I got the Radeon because all Radeons from 9550 on have 64bit driver support.

Now whereas I have no trouble running MS applications, it's a different story with non-MS applications. Eg. HP does not yet have 64bit driver support for its printers, programs like eBay Auction Intelligence don't run, and there are various other problems.

Is there an emulator available to provide a 32bit interface? WXPx64 looks good, but it seems to be ahead of its time in terms of available 64bit support.

Most 32 bit apps run in Windows XP64 using the inbuilt WOW.
Drivers are another matter -
They have to be 64 bit, try searching the net for 64 bit drivers you'd be surprised how many are availalbe.

Try using XP64's ability to force 32 bit apps to run under an older operating system.

Naw, its more than fast enough without overclocking.

If I had been thinking of it I would have got Mushkin XP Redline DDR550, run it at DDR 500.
a) Set the 'FSB' to 250
b) Dropped the multiplier to avoid to large overclock.
c) Set the HTT to 800 - in effect 4x250 = 1000
d) Leave the memory at 2:1 (would become DDR500 instead of 400)

That way you'd have HTT, FSB, CPU and memory all at 500.

Seen screenies of DDR500 reaching well over 7000mb/s on transfer rates with AMD64's.

Plus I have early Rev board (1.02), doesn't have working AGP/PCI locks unlike the later Rev 2.0 and up boards.
250FSB would probably push my PCI/AGP speeds out of workable range.

Kev, I have the same type of Ram by Corsair, 4x512 meg sims.

Yea, he is right on the money about caching everything, takes about 1200 and makes a difference... I'm able to run 'uber' settings (everything on) with a 'non supported' resolution.
