Big deal, right?  But it's a car!

Jeremy Clarkson

Bugatti Veyron

"It makes even the Enzo and the Porsche Carrera GT feel slow and pointless."

Model  Bugatti Veyron 16.4
Engine 7993cc, 16 cylinders in a W
Power  1001bhp @ 6000rpm
Torque 922 lb ft @ 2200rpm

Transmission  7-speed DSG, manual and auto
Fuel 11.7mpg (combined)
Acceleration 0-62mph: 2.5sec
Top speed 253mph
Price £810,345

Rating Five stars
Verdict Deserves 12 stars. Simply as good — and as fast — as it gets

That's some serious power, but that is also some serious money.
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Clarkson is ass, and that whale is overrated.  Laughed my bellybutton off watching it spin at 120mph at Laguna Seca.  McLaren would make short work of it on a race track.

250 mph !   I hit 280 KM/H once in a big Ford Cobra on a long ,straight, flat stretch of road.
Front end got all light and floaty, steering allmost non existant.
Nearly had to change shorts.....I cant imagine what 250 Mile an hour would be like on wheels.
Whats that? 420 odd km/h?

good excuse to throw in a piccie of my favourite Aussie muscle car.

Laguna Seca is one horrid track...

Was a good show on Speed about the making of the car. The technology involved, stuff like panels opening and closing to allow not overheating from citydriving to less drag for high speed.
Dat jugs bro.

My SVO felt very comfortable at 140 mph, and a friend's car with a hotter engine and modified turbo topped out at around 190 and was very pleasant to handle.  Of course thats in a long straightaway with very little to worry about running into, but it did involve some curves and construction areas.  :)  The steering was also very mulish at low speeds due to the front wheel settings.  I could take my hands off the wheel at 140 and the car would fly straight and true.  God  I loved driving that thing.

Hated working on it.  Expensive b****.

It probably weighs less than your computer monitor, knowing these guys...

This is from Sodas Aircraft page on behalf of the fine Hurricane Mk1....

"Top speed at sea-level is only 253mph (261mph with WEP), increasing to ~320mph @ 16K."

And i can vouch for lots of GVs timidly running instead of staying to fight!! Dweebs :).

Edit: just did some testing in TA: Top speed at sea level 252 mph, 260 mph(with WEP).

A quick google showed no info on top speed at sea level. Maybe someone can dig up reliable sources?
