After a few days of torturing myself with mapmaker for the first time i have found another torment: Tile Setter.MY prob: i insert .elv and .typ files(that were made by mapmaker) into it, set max alt to 25000(i tried different alts), all other settings default. Then i press set elevation, open my te and - there is no land-all land disappeared. What am i doing wrong? Please help.
(note: my map has flat land before editing .elv and .typ files with tilesetter)

I’m not sure if I understand what you’re asking but I might be able to help with some clarifications.

It sounds like you understand that Mapmaker takes a USGS .DEM file and converts it to a .elv file.  The program can also take USGS ground cover data (gusgs1_2.img) and create a .typ file.  Neither of these output files will stand up to critical inspection but the utility is so fast at creating basic terrains you will want to use it, for casual H2H maps for instance.

Tile setter on the other hand is a .typ utility that Nhawk polished after the original author passed his code on to him.  It builds a .typ file based on elevation and slope and also builds a clipboard map as well if I remember correctly.

I’m guessing your elevation file is still intact and available in one of those associated utility folders and if you put it back into the TE you’ll find lots of water not zero when you check it.  Make sure you have the latest version of Tilesetter and check out the readme file, and keep working on it. I'm sure you'll have satisfactory result soon.

NHawk might be along soon and spot your problem.

Good luck

Figures the one day I don't check this forum someone actually posts.

I haven't done anything lately with the TE, been flying most of the time... but I am waiting on Skuzzy to give me a green light for an MA map. I think he forgot about me or lost the layout bitmap.

Glad to see you got it working Duh. :)

If you only have 3 zones (1 through 3), each zone is a different country. Make sure you have the countries set for the bases to match the correct zone.

Also, no base should be a zone master in zones 1, 2 and 3. The HQs are automatically zone masters for those zones.

Zone 1 = Bishops
Zone 2 = Rooks
Zone 3 = Knights

I think... can't remember for sure. ;)

I think I was unfair to you NHawk.  Your version of Tilesetter goes way beyond anything the original program did.  It's a great tool.  Thanks.
