Nah, I had a '68 Plymouth RoadRunner 383. Loved it. Went fast, stopped fair, handled like crap except in a straight line. Large front bench seat that was real handy on Friday & Saturday nights with the 8-track LearJet blasting.  Ah, gawd... why can't those days last forever?  :)

But there were twins at my high school that had a '68 Z28 with, IIRC, mechanical lifters. Remember, I said "driving" not "owning".  ;)

That Z28 was a beast, except they were forever having trouble keeping the lifters squared away. Sometimes it ran incredibly.. other times it barely ran. (High school kids and hi-performance engines?) That car would kick anything's *ss when it was tuned.

Anyway, good suggestions in here. Already grabbing some of the bands.

Keep 'em coming... even just band names if you like!

Thanks!

All time favorite was "American Pie."  A couple of others I like to hear when driving are "I got a line on you" by Spirit and of course "In A Gadda Da Vida". But there are so many many more that sound just great and take me back when the top is down and the wind blows through the few remaining wisps of hair on my crown (before I put the ball cap on to kep from getting sunburned on top)  :)

This one isn't mine but it is identicle to the one in my garage:

Iron Butterfly: In A-Gadda-Davida

(my fav from Iron Butterfly is an "Iron Butterfly Theme")

It's A Beautiful Day: Bombay Calling, that later became a Deep Purple's "Child in Time".

I am only 29, but I love that music! Thanks for a very educating thread! Will look for the bands I didn't hear.

Oy, there's a lot of great music from that era that still spins on my turntable (these I do still have on vinyl actually too)...

Spirit; Twelve Dreams of Doctor Sardonicus...good old Randy California. Some great rock'n roll in this one

Black Sabbath; Black Sabbath...the standard by which all things "heavy" are judged.

Jefferson Airplane; Surrealistic Pillow...San Fran in 67. Wasn't there, hearing this album always makes me wish I was.

Jethro Tull; This Was...The blues undertones in this album are fantastic. Tulls first "official" work, and some of their best imo.

Ten Years After; A Space in Time...Some pretty impressive music on that album.

Pink Floyd; Meddle...Help! I can't get off the sofa! enuff said ;->

...and a whole pile of other great stuff. The late 60's through to early 70's really did produce some fantastic tunes.

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

I broken in every "new" car with the same three songs...
Led Zeppelin: Kashmir
Led Zeppelin: When the Levee Breaks
10 Years After: I'd Love to Change the World

Can't beat Pink Floyd, the Who, the Doors, Cream, ELP...

Now that you're getting MP3's, be sure to find those rare tracks... for example, from Pink Floyd's Animals you can find a rare long version of Pigs on the wing that was specially recorded for the 8-track version, it linked the end of side 2 back to the beginning of side 1 (ka-Chunk!).

try,

Humble Pie (peter frampton)
Traffic
Moody Blues
Crosby, Stills & Nash
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Cowboy Joe
Niel Young

Santana man
the Dead (been mentioned already but they have to be on the list  :) )
Shanana  :D hey they were at Woodstock!
Mama's and the Papa's
Carpenter's (cheesey, but from a musician's perspective really good music)
Arlo Guthry Jr. (Alice's Resturant)
Bob Dillan
Mountain
Joe Cocker (lol made it big singing other people's songs, but hey he does it well)

There are so many that I can't remember right now.  I'm sure I'll come back and edit this later.
