Dual profiles in XP
« on: December 11, 2005, 12:38:04 AM »
I am sick of having to CTL-ALT-DEL to get my games to perform better.  It takes me FOREVER to get intto a game of Battlefield 2, and I am pretty sure it is because I have too much other stuff going on.

Could I

erase HD to start over, and have two profiles set up within Winxp on logon.

Profile 1.  Internet- word processing
This is the profile I would go to install browsers, surf the net, anti-spyware, anti-virus, check e-mail, Microsoft Office to do homework......blah blah, blah

Profile 2. Gaming- That is IT, nothing else.

Now, if I use profile one to install misc. stuff, will it find it's way to profile 2?  I don't want anything running at all except what is vital to the operating system and the games.  I don't want to go into msconfig on profile 2 and uncheck something from startup that was installed on profile 1.

Is this possible? reasonable?

There are several programs that will make it easy for you to shut down everything not needed.

Enditall is one

Do a search of the Hardware/software forums going back 6 months.

There were at least 2 others mentioned that basicly automate the process.

Last, instead of letting that crap run all the time, and shut it down when you want to fly.

Clean it up, trim your computer into a lean mean fighting machine.

Start, run, msconfig, startup tab.

Just be a bit carefull what you don't allow to start.

Once you have your system setup right a 45 second reboot will have you clean, mean & rdy to fly.

Good luck on finding a copy of enditall. PC Mag in their infinite wisdom has decided that giving it away infringes upon their copyright and has threatened sites posting it with legal action.

That being said if anyone has a copy well..my email is listed or IM me. :aok
