Texace has the history right, but the flip side of the coin is that Southwest has proven Love is not going to put DFW out of business. The Wright Amendment was put in place to protect Ft. Worth and Tarrant County from losing their investment in DFW, a huge unproven project at the time. It's now well established and in no danger of failing.
Meacham Field is too small to compete, Great Southwest (the nation's first commercial airport designed for jet traffic) was destroyed, but now there's Alliance. Passinger gates could easily be put in and we'd have another field to fly from. The Wright Amendment is outdated. The war between Dallas and Fort Worth is over.
Arlington won.
