Lifetime ATI user just switched to Nvidia .. which drivers?
« on: December 12, 2005, 09:51:17 AM »
So I've been supporting our Canadian brothers with ATI purchases for the last decade. I just switched to Nvidia with my new card a 7800gt(515). Which drivers do I want to use with this o/c card? The EVGA, Forceware, or stock drivers?

Go with the EVGA ones, they are pretty much the latest. 81.94 EVGA vs 81.95 Forecware.

I've always just used the reference drivers fron nVidia's site.  I have heard that the 80 series isn't any good if you don't have a dual core system, so in that case try to find some of the late 70 series.

Here is a link to eVGA's archive of older drivers:
http://www.evga.com/Support/Drivers/default.asp?switch=5&category=gc&subcat=1&os=xp2k

They have eVGA's logo and whatnot on the install, but one of their engineers told me that they are the basic reference drivers other than that.

I went with the EVGA drivers.

The card screams. All my games are pegged at 85fps with vsynch on. 2xAA 4XAF. Overclocks nicely right outta the box with the stock coller. I used the coolbits auto o/c and I was able to push it further. I'd suggest you buy the card with the (516) timings. Better HSF and timing for the money.
