IEEE1394 Cables for digicams
« on: December 13, 2005, 08:27:28 AM »
ok, my youngest daughter's videocam uses firewire, to hook to pc, does she need the cables with the  builtin filters ( the  big round things attached to the cables at each end , sort of like your monitor cable ) or will a regular IEEE1394 cable do?

what are the pros and cons?  different sites on the web says different things.
does she need a filter on both ends, a filter on 1 end or is the filters really necessary?

thanks In advance

It depends on the 1394 connection in your computer.  Try it without a filter (regular 1394 cable).  You will know if you need a filter or not.  The filters just scrub the line of EMI.

Also, check the camera manufacturer, as they normally sell a cable for connection to the computer (suprised the camera did not have one in the box).
