music in bombers
« on: December 13, 2005, 02:02:39 PM »
One of the nice things about being a former signaler myself, was being able to tune into radio stations and play music over the audio speakers.  Whether I was on a 707, a destroyer, or in the back of my radio truck, I often tuned into BBC International, or local radio stations.

Wouldn't it be nice that the bomber radio's could tune into a radio that played 40's music while on a bombing run?  Just a nice-to-have feature...

Just tune the stack to "run media player in background"...

My old man said they used to have the radio operator tune into "AXIS SALLY" on missions.

Totally love the idea.   Probably have to make the "music pack" local, so as not to add to the data transfer load (which would ditch framerates), but would really be a nice touch for those long hauls.

So speaketh I.  ;)

It's not quite the same, but I often turned down the vox playback, and ran winamp in the background. I wish they could add some coading to allow control of a media player in-game; kinda sucks to tab out, tab back in to a fighter screaming down on you.

Just run it off a second soundcard if you don't want to take the framerate hit. I keep music on my 5.1 and the game on headphones.

i loved playing "Flogging Molly" in the background on long distance, low-level attack missions. it keeps my mind going while dodging trees.

I used to play Amazing Grace when flying the heavy bombers, I loved it!
(remember the movie, Memphis Belle, playing the same song)

Haven't you heard of the Japanese tuning to a Hawiian Radio station to help guide them into the island? B17 formations did this on a regular basis.

Whoa SMIDSY, I love Flogging Molly....ever see them live?

If any of you have XM Radio, I use the online feature sometimes, they have a wonderful 40s station there, but you run the risk of hearing post-war music. If that matters though, you may be into realism a tad too much :aok
