I'm wondering... If I have a movie at the top of the queue, but it's not available, does the system wait until it is before sending the movie or does it just move down to the next available movie?

I've never actually had a film not be unavailable. Must be magic.

It just sends out the next available one.

Sob is right.

PS: Watch out when sending back the movies in the envelope but without the sleaves. Often they do not register as a return.

What Seagoon mentions is happening to me right now, I have a copy of Glengarry Glenross I returned a week+ ago that still hasn't shown up as received, and was sent in w/o a sleeve.

Me too, I'm currently out 2 movies because both while returned haven't been tagged. I've reported both of them returned, but you have to be careful using that as they assume you are stealing the movies after so many reports. (As if anyone would want to steal The Ruttles 2 - you couldn't pay me to keep that dog).

Guard them sleeves with your life!

Hmmm... I've been on Netflix for a few months now and never lost a sleeve.

I should note that I also do not have toddlers in the house.

Only issue i have with Netflix is for a while, you get movies received and sent out quickly...and after a while, it slows down. I was enjoying the fact I could watch a bunch on Sunday, send them out Monday, be received Tuesday and ship Tuesday....so new stuff Wednesday. Repeat process, get roughly 6 movies a week. Now, its only 3 a week the way the turn around is. Complain about it, it improves for a while, then goes back to slow-mo.

Still, a great service for getting all those TV Series DVDs. (ST Voyager, X-Files, etc)

I wish they were only a danger to sleeves. For a little while my two year old, Graham, was sticking DVDs into everything resembling a slot in the house. This included the A/C vents, the VCR, and between the seat cushion and the chair. I still have no idea where Fellowship of the Ring Disk 2 is.

I think this has more to do with where you live and your local postal service.

I've been a Netflix subscriber for 3 years. Put movies in mailbox yesterday. Got "We've Received" notices this morning, "We've Sent" notices shortly after and will likely get the movies tomorrow. My service has been consistently this good for all three years.

I've also had three or four lost in mail experiences with no questions asked. IMHO Netflix > sliced bread and second only to TiVo in video nirvana.

I've had runs like LePaul described, though in general I've seen really rapid turnaround. I'm sure local mail has something to do with it -- but I also suspect the distance to the nearest Netflix service center plays a big role.

While I've never had my next movie be "unavailable", ther have been times that it has to come from a more distant processing center -- and ingeneral those are the times I have longer waits. Check out the return address on your mailer, and I bet you'll find that if a particular disk comes from or is going to a secondary cetner you're wait will be longer.
