before looking at the price...

what slot is available in your expantion bay?

PCI?
PCI Express?
AGP?

If you have PCI slots only, get a video caerd that can fit in the PCI slot (white slot)

If you have an AGP slot (they are colored, blue, red, brown, ect) getg a v-card that fits in AGP slot

New PCs should come with PCI Express.  If you have this, get a v-card that supports PCI Express

Ike,

That last picture there. Is the PCI video slot the one labeled PCIEx16 or the 2 that are labeled PCIEx1? I'm curious as I will have to think hard about upgrading slowly. I will look for the motherboard and CPU and re-use my current vid card, memory, etc. until I can afford newer components. My AMD 1800 is getting to be rather stressed at this point. Right nowe I figure I'll have to stay with an AGP board since that is the type of vid card I have right now.

The PCIE16 is the video card one. I'm not really sure what would go in PCIE1, maybe wireless B NIC interfaces.

I have a GF6600. It plays videos fine. If you can't play videos, you are most likely missing the correct codex.

GF 6600 GT is about the best bang for the buck, but it might be a little out of your price range. Radeon 9800 Pro is the best $100 card but I'd throw in $30 more for the GF.
