A visit from Santa could be a "terrifying" experience for kids, according to advice on a government website.Competitive party games and trips to a pantomime could also be traumatic for youngsters.The guidance for teachers on http://www.teachernet.gov.uk was pulled after parents' groups complained it threatened to destroy the magic of Christmas.

The site warns: "For very young children, Father Christmas can be terrifying, and if you are planning a visit from Santa, you'll need to make sure that fearful children are near an exit."

The advice also said staff organising school Christmas parties should take care not to arrange competitive games with winners and losers, to avoid upsetting the children.

It suggests activities which do not leave children feeling they have "under-performed."

The website had a link to a list of games devised by the "progressive" youth movement, the Woodcraft Folk.

Their advice for Christmas parties is: "If you have prizes, make sure there is also something small for everyone at some stage."

A spokesman for the Department Education said: "This is not government policy and was not produced by the department as the disclaimer on the site makes clear."

I feel this is a major cause of the whining you hear in the MA. Youngsters who have never "lost" anything in their lives getting their butts handed to them do not know how to act and thus spew garbage on 200.

to get my kid out of the local crap junior high (basically a holding facility until the kids can be moved to the Oregon state pen), we had to put him into one of those 'everybody's a winner' work at your own pace schools.

it worked out well because they allowed him to work above his grade level in many subjects but the social aspect was just terrible.  subjects like 'power walking' and 'non-competitive athletics'  as PE electives weren't too great either. a kid that pitches for his LL team and boxed since he was 6 can barely say non-competitive, let alone understand it.  "if we don't have a winner how do I prove I'm better than you?"

at one point I had to have a meeting with the principle because they wanted to put him back into the other school because he didn't fit in with the non-competitive aspect of the school.

I wish I had a pic of the look on the principles face when I told him I had it handled and it wouldn't be a problem, then turned to my son and said "Look, your mom went to a lot of work to get you into this school, you only have to the end of this year and you are going to make it work, you are not going to waste the time and effort she put into this.
  they want you to be non-competitive, thats the way the game works here, and you are going to do it.  I expect you to be the most non-competitive kid at this school for the rest of this year. I'd appreciate not having to hear of anyone being better at it than you.  do we have a problem?"

"no problem, these kids can't beat me at anything."

"good", then to the principle "problem solved.  does that work for you?"

he really couldn't think of anything to say, he just nodded and we wrapped up the meeting.

ok our school system is goin to sh** of course we figured that out a long time age. WTF!! thats whats going through my mind when i read that. No competitive games so it wont upset children?? no wonder children these days are lazy and bunch of cry babies. Damn man blame the school system not the parents. Afraid of santa?? LOL they arent afraid thats just there way of telling you that they havent been good this year and afraid santa will tell there parents. Im in high school so i can see this crap at work somtimes. In my old junior high school we had to wear standerized dress. You must wear SOLID color polo t-shirts with a collar. NO LOGOS ON THE SHIRTS. Cant wear green, orange, or alll black clothes, because its "gang relative". They want us to be equal so the rich kids wont pick on the poor kids.

Well you know what not one kid in any school does not care what you wear. And guess what there still is gangs. So you guys who are paying school taxes on this BS may be mad by reading this. CAUSE WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS NOT HELPING!!!!!!!!!!!! Its just making us angrier that they are taking another of our freedoms away.
