My 2nd Movie......
« on: December 26, 2005, 02:30:06 PM »
Well ........ it's a love story, a tragedy :cry , and a whole lot of fun making it! Bring Popcorn and peanuts, a drink, and some tissues for your tears......
Yes, it is kinda ....... well I am not going to give it away sillies .... sheesh! :lol :lol

This is my second movie and I would appreciate comments, and possible suggestions too.  I get so wrapped up in these that I don't want to cut it but I know I have to leave some of the film on the floor. The actual dogfight with the HOG is over 5 minutes and I cut nearly half of that - but kept the meat of it. Could have made a movie out of just that, but I didn't want to have everyone up and leave!
Without further adeaux.......

Alright, overall not very exiting or touching. I just have to say that your not very good with gunnery, are you? Your use of flaps was good, tho. I don't appreciate the vulch or the afk kill at the start.

Now, the music didn't fit and the snap view gave me a headache. Also, there are alot of parts that the views are just all scrambled up making me look away, so minus points (tsk tsk)

I'm normally not this cruel when giving comments. Sorry, but this made me yawn

I enjoyed the Hog Fight - couldve given me the whole 5 mis without boring me i guess :). Music was fitting the slow pace of the film.

I didnt really need to see the vulch either, just because i dont like that part of gameplay.

From a cinematographic point of view id have liked to see a little more different perspectives for the shots, not only F3 and cockpit. (play around with f4 chase mode and fixed view position).

Nice film :).

Hiya KKEN, keep'em coming:)

For me I liked the idea of the movie, but think it could be presented a little differently.

Play around with the chase views (F4), you can get some pretty spectacular footage with it by manipulating the view sliders.

I liked the music you used, but don't think it fit really well with how the movie played out.

When in F3 external view mode, the aircraft remains level on the screen and the horizon rolls around it. It gives it kind of an animated look.  By using the chase view (F4) it allows the aircraft to roll around the horizon, leaving the horizon level in the background. (gives it a more realistic eye experience).

I spend alot of time playing with the views before I actually "film" a scene.
And most of my shots end up on the "cutting room" floor. LOL

Graphic quality wise, we are all limited by what our computers are capable of doing and what editing software we have available to us. So, I don't worry, nor would I ever critique a movie for "prettiness". I like to see good stories layed out and edited well, with a choice of music that really fits what I am trying to get across in the film.

I can't tell you how many times I have tossed out a movie, because I can't find the right msuic for it, or the music doesn't fit it well enough.

I have a few movies I made left on my HD that I won't show, but keep anyway (hoping I will have an epiphany and find the right music LOL).

You are way ahead of where I was though with my first few movies.

Hope you don't take this as a negative post, I did enjoy the movie, just thought you might like a different perspective on it.

And like I said....keep'em coming!

Cheers,
RTR

(PS....Schatzi did you get my rply to your pm a while ago?

Why don't you say what you really think?  :lol  I guess my gunnery and film-making are on a par.  The "afk" kill at the start, was not - but I can never be sure. The film didn't show the huge furball at 2:00 low.  The vulching......well, with gunnery like mine, gotta get em when ya can!  I had a whole base surrounded and didn't need more targets in the air.  I digress...
I agree with the snap views, havent quite got the hang of all the angles yet, but it's obvious.  The more I tried, I wanted to change things but alas, it looks good enough for me. And it was fun.
So, thanks for the input. Very Sorry, "No Refunds"

Thank you Schatzi..... I have to admit, my intoxication was evident in my VOX, but that player, who remains nameless, fought a great fight.
I'll try messing with the Chase View -I was not sure how that was going to work.  I hit it a few times and it did zoom away but didn't really experiment much with it.  I made 14 avi's for my first movie and 8 for this one. I had trouble with the really short ones, like the vulched planes on the ground and the low Hog view, the prop just started turning as I did the F3.... lot's to learn yet.

Thanks again....

Thanks very much.  I asked for suggestions and  you gave me what I asked for and covered it very well.  I deleted 36 avi's last night...... LOL Never to be seen again - even by me!  :D :D :D

I watched my RTB scene and saw P 38 ghosts flashing up and I had a foul "plastic" odor like MB and/or video cards welding themselves together
:(   That was the one scene that I think I forgot to turn off "user or recorded views" because I was dragging another nmy P 38 at 1.5 off my 6  and it was me checking him often.!!
Thank you again for your comments,

KKEN, when recording the avis, give yourself a few second lead in and lead out. you can cut those off in WMM (or whatever editing program you use). by clicking and draggin on them, you can fade the different clips into each other (makes for less jumpy POV changes). Use the [ and ] key to zoom in/out when in external or f4 view. Just get experimental :).

And as for how many avis *i* used when making a movie...... i think i record about 10-15 for each scene, untill i got one that i really like and that fits the music.
