system.dll missing
« on: December 28, 2005, 01:52:52 PM »
When I run DXdiag I get a message saying that:

"The file system.dll is missing!
You should reinstall DirectX to get the latest version."

Image link due to size

Here's my Dxdiag text.

I tried re-installing Direct X but the error remains

I searched the web but only found references to .NET 2.0 framework might be an issue.

I did a file search and found 2 'system.dll's'

One in .NET Framework 1 (1.1.4322.2032)

The other in .NET Framework 2 (2.0.50727.42)

Then I tried unistalling .NET framework completely but the error remained

I re-installed just 1.XX and the error remained.

I trying to track down some stuttering issues in a couple of games (AH isn't one). The only issue I haven't resolved in my troubleshooting is this missing system.dll. Any help is appreciated...

AFAIK, you cannot uninstall the .NET framework.  Once there, its there forever.  Unless you reinstall Windows.

Did you uninstall any programs lately?  Many times during an uninstall Windows removes .dll files used by the program you are removing, only for you to find out later that that particular file is shared.  Reinstalling the affected app. usually fixes it.  In the case of Direct X, it may not be exactly a Direct X file thats missing, but instead one that is referenced by Direct X (part of a standard Microsoft set of files).  Best bet in that case is to try to do a Windows Repair with your CD-ROM.
