computer re-starts
« on: December 30, 2005, 01:39:10 PM »
Well here I am goofing off at work and remembered I have a computer problem you all might shed some light on.

My computer has been re-starting by itself on an infrequent basis.   It happens during AH play but my wife has told me it happens at other times too.  Sometimes after an hour or so, sometimes within 15 minutes.

I have done multiple scans with McAfee.  Also ensured I had all the latest XP home updates.   I have reloaded my drivers for my card several times deleting the old first and using various Nvidea drivers that I have downloaded over the last year.

I cant give the exact specs on my computer at this time but it used to be a Dell dimension 8200.   In October I had my motherboard go bad so I had various bits and pieces transferred to the new mb and installed in a new case with more fans.   As far as I can see all the fans are operating fine with no dust blockage (new case has a clear side panel).  I thought it might be something that related to the re-build but the problem only started the beginning of December.

Can anyone give me some things to check?

See my post in Hardware section.

My puter just started rebooting by itself...its my PSU going bad..  try replacing the PSU if you have an extra.

You can get Windows XP to give you a BSOD, rather than restarting, then use that info to track down the problem.

I also remember theres a dump file somewhere that will detail each crash, in the admin / performance tab

If I were a betting man, I'd say if you didn't change your power supply, it could be the source... but it also could be a heat or hardware issue of some kind.

If you're not exactly sure of your systems innards, try this:
Belarc advisor

It'll show you everything and more.
