alot of people would say the CH Products USB F-16 Fighter Stick/USB Pro Throttle/USB Pro rudder pedals

http://www.provantage.com usually has the best price for these

others will say the Saitek X-45 or X-52 HOTAS set-up

then the rest will say Microsoft sidewinder

if you can, try to get rudder pedals, personally speaking never liked that twisty -stick as rudder feature of the other sticks like MS or logitech

YMMV

TC hit it right on the head. I've used the Saitek X-35 and when that gave up the ghost I switched to the X-45 and have used that for a long time now. But many I know swear by CH.

Probably the best advice would be to get what feels comfortable tou you. Move the stick around and see if it releases from it's center position the way you would like it to. See how it feels in your hand. A small joystick in a large hand can be irritating to some. As can the opposite.
Most of the people you meet in life are like slinkies. Pretty much useless, but still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

I like the Cyborg Evo myself. I had a TON of problems with the X45, but it seems that it was just my computer hardware sucking the life out of them. The throttle slider has a nice resistance so you can set exact settings and the such but responds to inertia enough that you can slam it to full or idle easily enough. The spring is about the same as the X45's, but the plate it attaches to is much smaller, making it easier to move the stick. X45s have a small "dead spot" where the spring plate has to be tugged a little bit to continue moving, which results in a pretty pronounced nose bounce there. The Evo is also free of that dang rubber thing under the spring plate, meaning less you have to wrestle with. The Evo is adjustable with 4 hand sizes and can be easily switched from a left hander to a right hander.
Though many people don't seem to know, the Evo also comes wireless. This version take 1 AA battery and has a very good connection in areas of low or no interference from other 2.4GHz devices. It has a twitch now and then, but has a button that can force it to search within the frequency for a better connection. If you're not one to worry about a tiny nosebounce or replacing a AA after ~50 hours (in use; it has an auto-off feature) I'd reccomend it to get away from the wires. I got it so that less can go wrong with it, seeing as my old compy used to shock X45s to death. The Wireless one also puts less stress on the PSU, seeing as the stick itself is powered by the AA battery.
One thing that I have noticed is the knobs used to adjust the angle of the thumb buttons corrode after a month or two. They still work just fine, but they look like they came off the USS Saratoga.
