Seafire R.41
« on: January 01, 2006, 07:28:38 PM »
i dont remember if it was seafire or spitfire but i love this plane.

4x 20mms and contra rotating propellors

i can expect it would be very easy to fly being that the torque is cancelled out by the two props.

hmm i cant seem to get any pics of it on google...... i know this is a real plane, i saw it in the  air classics magazine a long time ago.

where i got the name was from Heros of the Pacific

can anyone help me with this?

Only problem with that one is there were not operational Spit PR19s with contra rotating props.  That was done by Fighter Rebuilders in California for a potential run at some prop speed or climb records.  It's since been sold and is in France last I heard.

Of course the lack of guns would be a problem in AH too :)

They tested various Spits with contra rotating props but none saw combat in
WW2.

Here's an inflight photo of the restored Seafire FR 47

More pics of it here:

Could have a Seafire XV  though.
Basically a navalised Spit XII.
390 produced (last 50 with bubble tops), more than our current Seafire IIc with Merlin 46 (110 made)

Or at a bare minimum the most used/produced Seafire, the L III. (not shown)

Bottom bubble top Seafire is an XVII, the follow up to the XV.  Still a postwar bird.

Gotta love the look of that XV.

Of course it's the Spit XII's RN cousin with that single stage Griffon VI so I'm biased :)
