If Red Army captured Hitler - he could be guarded as the most precious treasure in the world.
Western "allies" had to do almost anything to kill him. Things that he could tell in court could be lethal for some of them.
The idea for the Soviet troops was to capture him and keep him alive at any cost. Many times people who looked like Hitler got captured and then released without any harm. A legend about Cossacks who almost captured Napoleon in 1812 was used to explain that he had to be kept alive.
Strange that even in the 80s we have been told that Hitler's body wasn't found, while there were publications in the 1960s in USSR about people who examined his body and took in to USSR, one girl who served in that unit became a writer, I saw her interview on TV recently. His jaw was shown in Kremlin in 1995 before 50th anniversary of Victory, before that I didn't know he was found and identified.
