My computer was recently infected with SpyAxe. I got rid of that, and a bunch of other stuff by using this spyware removal regimen at MajorGeek's:
Spyware Removal It involves going into safe mode and doing multiple scans with various antispyware and antivirus programs provided for free, (
Ad-Aware SE, CCleaner, Microsoft® Windows AntiSpyware, Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, SpyBot - Search & Destroy, Hijack This!,CWShredder, Kill2me, BitDefender and Panda Active Scan) then disabling system restore, rebooting and enabling system restore and creating a fresh clean restore point that will not be harboring infectious matierial.
What was surprizing to me is that even though my freshly updated ad aware, updated spybot and updated Norton's antivirus gave me a clean bill of health, an additional 47 infections were discovered and eliminated by following this procedure.
I'm using sticking with Firefox and Thunderbird.... IE only when absolutely necessary.
