eRazor 1.9 is out!!!

Go and download it at  http://www.falcon40.com  or  http://www.frugalsworld.com  (but please wait until I end my download  )

From a preview at frugalsworld:

"My mission for today is just a simple barcap taking off from Seoul at 9:10 am on day one of the campaign. I check the briefing to make sure there are no surprises then hit the print button and collect the briefing from my printer in case I need to refer to it in the jet. I then check the map and notice that activity is fairly light so far this morning so I opt to take a loadout of Aim 120's. Hitting fly I elect to start on the ramp and find myself in the jet awaiting preflight 8 minutes prior to my take off time. I spend a few minutes looking for my checklist and meanwhile hear my wingman's jet power up, it looks like my AI wingman had his checklist closer to hand than mine

With the checklist in hand I run through my preflight:

Main fuel on. …. Check.
Fuel pumps to NORM …. Check
Fuel display switch to NORM …. Check.
Air Source set to NORM …. Check.
Throttle to Idle …. Check.

I then select JFS START 2 and listen as the engine spools up. Once the RPM is above 20% I advance the throttle and select Idle Detent Switch then move the throttle back to idle.

Radar Altimeter On …. Check.
MFD power on …. Check
FCC power on …. Check.
SMS Power on …. Check.
UFC Power on …. Check.
FCR Power on …. Check.
DL Power on …. Check.
HUD Power on …. Check

Ok the Jet is now ready to fly I just have to prepare the office for the task ahead. Here's where we get to play with the new DED. First I set my Bingo limit, and then it's into the ALOW page to drop the low altitude warning down to 1000. Then it's on to the Electronic Warfare System page where I set the REQJAM to on in order to automatically activate the Jammer when I'm spiked. I then set up a Chaff / Flare release program and then set the Countermeasures to auto. Finally I set my left MFD to TWS 40 miles range and make sure that the HSD is uncoupled. Checking the time on the DED I notice I am running a little late (this should be quicker when I no longer have to refer to the manual). I disable the parking brake, enable nose wheel steering, push up the throttle and start rolling out to the runway.

Shortly after I launched I heard my wingman call airborne (he was kind enough to wait while I figured out all those switches in the cockpit). We arrived on station without incident and I called up the TIME page on the DED and started the Hack Time. Just then I picked up several contacts moving fast down my scope. I bug one of the targets and hit the expand option on the MFD. This separates the targets making it easier to see what they are up to. After locking up one of the targets the NCTR flashes up the WAIT cue and a few moments later identifies the target as a Mig 23 …. Time to earn my wages. I call to my wingman to "Attack my target". He responds in the affirmative and shortly after I hear him call "Fox 3 Long". Meanwhile I lock the other target, switch to A2A Master Mode and select my 120's.

I hear Betty call Jammer, signifying that my jammer has just been activated in response to the Mig 23's FCR. The ASEC cue in my HUD starts to flash and I launch the missile calling "Fox 3 medium". At precisely the same moment the Mig launches at me and as the launch warning sounds my jet starts to pump out chaff and flares following the program I set before take off. I'm now in a game of missile chicken supporting my missile until it goes active whilst the Migs missile is streaking towards me. The moment my 120 goes active I padlock the incoming missile, pull back the throttle, roll inverted and pull hard back on the stick whilst my jet continues to pump out countermeasures as if they were going out of fashion. As I drop down below 1000 Betty gives me the low altitude warning and I roll out keeping the missile on the beam. As it approaches I turn hard and see the missile plow into the ground. Fortunately the Mig was not so successful in evading my missile and the score is now 2-0 to the good guys.

I request picture from Awacs and discover no immediate threats to our station area so I quickly check the Hack Time, still 10 minutes of my station time remain so I continue flying between the Cap steerpoints. After a few minutes Awacs calls some inbound hostiles. Looking at the HSD I notice these targets have been uploaded via the datalink so I can now see the positions of 4 targets in the HSD. I turn towards the targets and as I pick them up on radar I notice they are jamming. I select the first target and fire off a 120 in HOJ mode. The missile homes in on the jamming signal and shortly after we chalk up another one to the good guys. Once I let my wingman lose we clean up the other 3 without problem.

Before the end of the cap we end up tangling with some more Mig 23's and this results in a guns up dogfight. The AI here is at least as mean as it was in 10799 and this becomes quite a tough fight, I can see on the HSD that my wingman is a fair distance away at this point and has a target of his own so I can't count on him to get my bellybutton out of the fire. Fortunately the Mig 23 is no match for the Viper and I am able to dispatch the bandit albeit expending a lot of effort in the process. I hear my Wingman call Fox 3 short and see his slammer hit home. After checking with Awacs I see that our station area is secure and request relief as the Hack Time is showing that we've now been on station for 18 minutes.

We return home without incident and receive good vectors from ATC. I bounced on my landing and was surprised not to hear the Tower say "Next time get a clearance". I don't think this bug has been fixed in 1.09 but perhaps some work has been done on it. I taxi clear of the runway and watch my Wingman make a silky smooth landing. I consider taxiing back to the ramp and shutting the jet down properly but decide against it. The debrief shows a successful mission with 8 kills recorded by our flight."

I used to keep track of all the 3rd party development of Falcon 4, now its just to much.

I checked out this patch and I'm downloading it now....not sure what's new.  I think there is another group (Realism Group?) that is making enhancements for Falcon...will these patches work together?

I wish Falcon had a easy on-line play, as we do with Aces...click OnLine and join in.  Wouldnt that be cool?

If you have any data or info you can pass along, let me know.  Myself and several friends love Falcon, but we are puzzled over the multiple patches and trying to figure out how to link us all up to fly it online.

eRazor 1.09 INCLUDES the Realism Patch. It updates the old graphic engine of Falcon to take all the advantages of the newest DirectXs, giving best performance and better graphics. But also changes the sim in a incredible way, it's FAR more realistic (complicated   ) than the original Falcon 4, with lots of new radar and weapons modes, a FULLY functional Data Entry Display (if you like complicated avionics with lots of modes, submodes, and functions, you will love this one!), fuel and engine management (with start and shut-down procedures, even mid-air restart), a cockpit with lots of new controls (you can even open and close the air to air refueling receptacle door   ), smarter AI, new wingman commands, etc. etc. And the multiplayer is now a lot easier, I didn't tried it yet, so I don't know how does exactly works, but it seems to be a lot better than the cryptic old code. Reports suggests that it is more stable and smooth too. I only played a pair of kick missions with 1.09, but I'm impressed. Now I must start to read the new manual (80 pages), and re-learn to fly the F-16 (at least I discovered where the gear emergency release handle and the fuel cut off switch are. The bad thing is that I was doing 400 knots when I discovered it, so you can imagine the consequences... a nice landing without gear and without engine   )

Well, I hope you understood something, it's very difficult for me to express myself with my limited english. If you want more info, look at the URLs I posted before, or at  http://www.f4community.com , their english is way better than mine

(EDIT) BTW, the installing process is very easy now, just install Falcon, patch it to 1.08, and to eRazor 1.09. That's all.

I used to beta test falcon back with the I-Beta team , Sleepdoc and the guys on Kali , VFA69_Painter was my call sign . Most of the 69th were testers as well , Stick , Speed , Ill-Dre , Snake , Raptor , Stanomatic , Chuck Yeager , Punch Out and Gambit . One thing I did not find in any read me file was how to install the patch . Do we do a fresh install then the latest patch (1.08us), then this new patch ?? I just installed the eFalcon patch over all my stuff , 108us , skyfix , realizm 4.1 (I think) and a few cockpit art stuff . It seemed to run ok but I would like to know for sure how this patch is to be installed  .
FALCON 4.0 ROCKS!!!  the only ones that don't like Falcon are the guys that don't want to read the manual SEVERAL times

From the 1.09 manual:

"1. Make backup copies of the entire Falcon4\config folder, all .tac files found in the
Falcon4\campaign\saved folder, and the phonebook.dat file in the Falcon4
directory.
2. Uninstall Falcon 4 using the ‘Uninstall‘ utility found on the Start Menu in the
MicroProse\Falcon4 submenu.
3. Manually delete the Falcon4 folder.
4. Reboot your PC.
5. Install Falcon 4 from the retail CD-ROM.
6. Patch Falcon 4 using MicroProse’s 1.08us patch (installation instructions from
MPS).
7. Run the eFalcon_109 Installer and proceed with the patch."

Uninstalling and deleting Falcon is a common procedure with all the RP and eRazor patches. Unfortunately it is the only way to avoid incompatibility issues between different patches.

I tried it, very nice patch

only thing you have to do is a fresh install of Falcon 4.0, 1.08 patch, and then this 1.09 patch

NOTHING ELSE

I dont know why people complain. Maybe thats STILL too hard.

Crap.. can't fight it anymore.  I'm gonna have to re-install Falcon 4.0 and check this out.

Of course, that also means I'm going to have to RTFM for both Falcon 4.0 and this patch.

I hate addiction to realism.

if you love realism you will love this patch.

you will have to RTFM tho. its pretty overwhelming the realism here.

but if you have a beefy system its a joy to run the campaign with FSAA.

From what I've read... 1.09 is a step forward in some areas and a step back for others with regard to realism. There's also a FPS hit.
