Very nice crosswind landing with a substantial slip on approach. The guy is good to make it look as smooth as he did.

It had a much sharper stacato sound than the Merlin. It may be the lightly shorter stacks on it not tuning the exhaust as much.

I'm no pilot, but could he have been slightly side ways in order to see the ground better, Looks tough to look over the cowling on those things?

I thought so too. He looked like he was slipping it in in order to be able to see past the nose. Then he could not estimate the ground distance and bounced it.

What is the history of that plane? Anyone know?

That is exactly it. A curved approach was normal for many of those old fighters. You had to do it in a Spitfire too. It's not exactly replicated in AH. I tend to make a curved approach for the the fun of it in the game. A straight in approach is not exactly realistic particularly in a Spitfire or 109. But I understand why the realism has been toned down a notch in AH. It would be damm hard to land any kills if the handling was too realistic. In a real F4U if you slammed in full power during a slow speed approach. You would torque roll into the ground. Not in the game.

Great sound of that engine too. You can actually hear the supercharger whine.
