Bailing Out
« on: January 14, 2006, 07:04:02 AM »
I might have missed a thread somewhere, but when did the ability to go back to the tower while floating down in a chute take effect?

I've done it, just don't like it. IMHO there's something wrong with having that ability.

Well, i actually think thats pretty convenient.

You ever bailed and opened chute accidently at 10K in DA? Go have some dinner till youre on the ground.

Get a wing shot off at 15K. Loooong way down. I usually bail then and tower out while falling (too lazy to open chute first).

Since the kill is awarded on bailout, i dont think it makes any difference.

Nhawk, the ability to tower out while in chute is enabled in MA as long as ive been playing this game (little over a year now). BTW, its an arena setting called ExitWhileMoving.

How about a very slight change in the mechanics then?

The 'return to tower' working only after chute has opened and pilot descent speed stabilized?

Won't do a thing with high-alt bailers, but at least, those who are shot down at deck alts will have no way to avoid a death by just returning to tower immediately after bailing...

You can even tower out while skydiving... and bail sucessfully. In other words bail out, don't open chute, 2 seconds before splat click tower.

If you're so low that you're going to splat instantly you won't be able to tower out fast enough to avoid it, in most cases. Thus it's not that much of an issue for me.

i remember a few years ago when i shot down an HQ raider at 30k. he opened his chute at 25k (which is stupid even in real life because of the lack of oxygen.) i made passes at him to give him false hopes of being shot. he was yelling over open frequency for us to shoot him. at about 15k we did so.

one time I bailed out of a plane an saw the guy still sittin in the cockpit.

Kweassa, your cannot avoid death by bailing out. As soon as you hit Enter for the third time, the kill gets awarded, no matter what you do after.

Theres no difference between towering out while skydiving, towering out while hanging in chute or towering out when already on the ground. They all lead to a "bailed successfully" or a "been captured", depending on whether your over enemy territory or your own.

First thing i want to say is its an arena setting. So its not really a change in the game but you can set it in the arena settings.

I think its convinient for MA and fitting, since a lot of pilots who dont  bail out to often accidantly open chute to high and would have some hassle there. I want to note that it doesnt take all that long to float down on the chute, much less than one thinks.

My whole point here was that I remember when you couldn't tower out while in a chute.

Just within the past year or so I think they started allowing it. And some that I fly with were quite surprized you could do it. So, evidently I'm not the only one who remembers it. :)

To an extent, forcing a ground landing in a chute actually helps with game play. It extends the time needed for someone to bail and re-up a plane. Which in turn allows attacks or defenses to proceed at a faster pace with a somewhat smaller resistence.
