PBY Catalina
« on: January 17, 2006, 01:18:30 PM »
I'd like to see Navy PBY Catalina's, or the US Army's version in the game. They'd be interesting to fly due to taking off and landing on water. I'd like to see us be able to land and rescue downed pilots. Then if you bail out, even in nme territory, someone could swoop in, in the "Dumbo" and pull you out of the drink. Rescued would be another outcome of your sortie, along with landed, bailed, ditched, crashed, captured or death.

A PBY could be built into the mission planner to fly along and fish the unfortunate  downed pilots out of the water.

Oops, sorry, this should have gone into the PBY thread someone else started.

Some will argue that few players would wait around to be rescued, or even do the rescuing. But on the other hand a few of us would. I have flown over 3 sectors just to take a squad mate vehicle supplies.

Also, the PBY could bring additional benefits to the game. With the bombs or torpedoes it carried, and not requiring a runway to take off, it could be used to protect a port against attack by ground vehicles or enemy fleets.
My password at work had to contain exactly 8 characters… I chose Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Some good points here Goaly. I would be willing to fly one along with my squad on their missions and scoop them up fairly quickly when they go down. Also, any other planned mission could have one or two flying along.

Might want to rethink that strategy. Guns or not, like the C-47 this isn't exactly a bird you'd want to fly into hotly contested airspace unless you've got a LOT of friendlies out there.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.
