Now that they are coming for you...

we will probably hear fewer of the Brit's righteous sermons how guns cause all the problems.

economist.com

"Criminals, feuding over profitable markets, are increasingly resorting to violence. The number of drug-related murders and kidnappings has risen sharply. More than 50 murders had links to organised crime in 1999, according to the police. Kidnap and blackmail are also on the increase. In the past three years, the number of such crimes, often linked to turf feuds over illegal drugs, increased four-fold, the NCIS says."

Firstly, I don't understand your title. Who exactly 'is coming for you'? Should I bake a cake and do some house-work? Or perhaps I'm one of the racketeers the police are targetting?

Damn it. And there was that shipment of 500 kilos of Heroin I had pencilled in for the beginning of next week. I guess I better get my people to ask Esteban to postpone it for a while. Oh well - that new Aston Martin I had ordered will have to cancelled.

Secondly, how does this relate to the gun control debate? I haven't seen any 'Brit' claim that Britain was crime free or that 'guns cause all the problems'. Righteously or not.

Thirdly, compared to the UK, the US is still streets ahead in terms of gun related crime, murder and rape. Your own Department of Justice admits that in one of its recent reports.

Fourthly, most of that article talks about the British legal system being revised to give police more ways to catch and put away the 'Grande Fromages' - to be more in keeping with the rest of the civilised world.

So to sum up, where does gun control come into this?
War! Never been so much fun. War! Never been so much fun! Go to your brother, Kill him with your gun, Leave him lying in his uniform, Dying in the sun.

Erm does'nt America have a drug problem? does'nt America have an organised crime problem? Damn I must be watching the wrong news programmes. Still its nice that my children can go to school and not have the hassle of passing through a metal detector. Its also nice they don't fear that a school yard argument won't see guns drawn like my friends child did in New York.

I guess I was too subtle...

What I ment guys, is that most of the gun-related violence in US is not a result of crasy gun-toting citizens indiscriminately blasting each other.

It is a result of the drug-related turf wars when the competing drug dealers or gangs shoot each other. It has not much relevance to the life of an average middle-class american - wether as an alleged killer or as a potential victim.

As far as I care, violent drug dealers can kill each other off.

Now that there is an increase of drug-related violence in England, number of gun-related death will go up despite the severe gun ownership restrictions. It will just confirm that it is not law-abiding citizens commiting those crimes and the criminals will have the guns wether it is legal or not.

I hope that is well chewed up for you!

As for children and metal detectors, Revvin, currently they are used to confiscate box cutters much more then confiscate guns! So we may have screwed up children, but they are screwed up wether they have guns or not!

miko2d, there's subtlety and then there's laziness. An your title still bares no relation to the point you were trying to make.

I'm glad your crystal ball is working so well! Everything is mapped out to the most infinitesimal detail - where did you get it?

Seriously, are you saying that British firearms related crime will soon be on a par with that in the States? It's got a long way to go, believe me, so if you're right, downtown Sheffield (where I live) will have to look like Beirut to provide the sudden acceleration in gun crime, that you are 'divining'.

You still haven't substanciated your original assertion - 'Brit's righteous sermons how guns cause all the problems'
