Many of you might know a virtual pilot that goes by the handle BLAUV,BLAUVer,and UrNoGoOd.On 1-17-2006 while he was at work his house caught fire and he lost everything. He has been playing this game since 2000 so i figured most of you that know him would want too know about this. His 3 children and wife made it out of the fire safely as well as his dog.

If anyone knows of the survival rates of computer equipment from a fire, most of his system was not destroyed, the AMD processor was still in tact,as well as the hard drives and ram cards. Was just wondering if anyone else had a computer that survived a fire and if so did it work afterwards.

If anyone would like too donate clothes, money, old joystick, etc.

PM me and i'll send the address.

My condolences for the loss of the house.  I'm happy to hear the news of the successful escape, though.

I'm glad to hear they all made it out ok.  Stuff you can replace.  Your life you cannot.

As to the computer, if the fire was anywhere in the vicinity of the case, more than likely the hard drive is junk.  He might be able to recover some data, maybe even all if he's lucky, but I'd not trust the drive to last.  Hard drives and heat are not a good combination, and I'd almost bet he'll have data corruption.  The rest of the parts are actually fairly durable to heat, as long as they didnt reach a point where they started to melt.  Might be ok.  I've been through this myself, damn near lost everything in a fire in 1995.  I hope they have family there to help?

he should be able to get everything back through insurance, if he has it. the only thing that matters is the safety of his family, which is great news.

im very sorry to hear it blauv, good luck, and see you soon!:aok

The CD-ROM drives and the power supply melted, but there was no other plastic parts melted inside the case which is why i asked. The hard drives got wet but his computer wasn't turned on.

i am sorry to hear of their loss. janurary 27th 2005 i myself had a house fire and it was a total loss, thank god we had insurance however it barely gave us enough to replace the house and a few belongings. no one was at home at the time of the fire and it was determined electical shortage.

i would not wish this upon my worse enemy. it is devistating and something that you never wanna relive. my prayers and wishes go out to your family. i know it is hard right now but keep your chin up, and know that there are people that care. <<>>

I too experianced a house fire in May of '04 which suffered a total loss due to smoke damage. Our insurance payed replacement for everything and we were allowed to keep everything of salvage.

My Fire adjuster told me the electronic equipment; ie digital cameras, PC's VCRS etc. that worked after the fire would fail within a couple of months due to the acid in the smoke attacking the solder joints in the boards.

He was absolutely right! All the items broke within four months. Glad for the insurance but having no one hurt is really all that matters!
